Summary: Provides instructional and/or personal support services to students under the direct supervision of licensed Educator.\ \ \ Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Follows the established instructional schedule and, under the direction and guidance of the teacher, Speech Language Pathologist, and/or Special Educator, presents subject matter to students. May tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to help them master reading, assignments, and/or reinforce learning concepts.
2. Follows district policies and procedures regarding students to include, but not limited to, instructional techniques and behavior management.
3. Maintains records and data sheets for assigned students as required.
4. Implements student program objectives in various settings such as, but not limited to: classrooms, playground, individual settings, and educational trips outside the classroom.
5. Assists the teacher with classroom activities by:
a. Preparing instructional materials such as art supplies and other materials.
b. Organizing classrooms and setting up learning centers prior to and after activities.
c. Handing out and collecting papers and assignments.
d. Supervising free play activities.
e. Helping to supervise students while they are in the lunchroom, library, music, P.E., assemblies, and halls.
f. Observing learning activities, acknowledging student requests for help, and referring student needs to teacher as appropriate.
g. Scoring objective tests and papers.
h. Running audio/visual equipment.
i. Assisting in educational demonstrations for the class or small groups.
6. Provides clerical and administrative support by:
a. Typing written materials.
b. Operating office machines such as copier, laminating machine, and/or fax.
c. Maintaining records.
d. Collecting materials for teachers use.
7. Collaborates with teachers, co-workers, and others to ensure an appropriate learning experience for all students.
8. Provides routine, personal care and assistance such as dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, and emotional support.
9. Actively participates in student planning meetings, department, and committee meetings.
10. Remains current on district programs and best practices in the profession; may be required to attend training.
11. Proactively models positive, constructive behavior to others.
12. Implements specialized programming for students as required. This may include the effective administration of physical intervention and restraint techniques when needed.
13. May perform other tasks as assigned per the Master Agreement.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees the needs of assigned student(s) under the direction of a certified educator.
