A Job Coach works with Program Participants who have a developmental disability, and who are receiving services from the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). The role of the job coach is to assist the Program Participant in developing the skills necessary to maintain employment in the community. Toward that end, the Job coach is to be able to assess a task, develop a plan for teaching the task, including safety considerations and program member limitations, customize the learning experience so that the Program Participant can learn to be successful at the task, and document progress toward mastering the task. As a part of the learning experience the Job Coach works alongside the Program Participant, modeling both the task and proper work ethics. At all times the Job Coach is to be mindful of the health and safety of the program members.

The Warehouse Job Coach is responsible for the shipping and receiving of donated items. The Coach must be able to drive a variety of vehicles including the box truck, pick-up trucks, the forklift and various trailers. The Coach may be asked to assist in various tasks including covering for other staff positions as needed. The success of the Thrift Store depends upon the Warehouse Job Coach representing GCRC to the community in a professional and courteous manner. This includes upholding appointments to pick up donations, treating donors and their donations with respect, and following all traffic laws while operating GCRC vehicles.

This is a full-time position.

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Participation in the ISP team: Everyone receiving services through GCRC has a service plan team. The staff is responsible for being an active member of the team, participating in the development of the service plan, fulfilling and documenting progress on objectives, updating team on changes in behaviors and potential health risks, and gathering information about the program member that is relevant to their success. (i.e. behavioral data, personal interests, wants and desires, etc.)
  • Accurately complete paperwork:** Accurately complete required paperwork/documentation; weekly, monthly and annually. This includes the daily notes, data sheets, incident reports, monthly progress reports, vehicle logs, and any other required paperwork.
  • Develop teaching plans: Performing a task analysis and being able to create a teaching plan that will enable the program member to master a task is an essential skill of a Job Coach. The Job Coach should be able to break a task down into individual steps, take into account any safety considerations and program member limitations, and utilize positive teaching strategies to develop a teaching plan that will both promote success and help motivate.
  • Implement teaching plans:Have a clear understanding of each job within assigned program site, and to teach program members to perform the jobs within the program according to safety, quality and quantity standards.
  • Follow safety procedures: Provide a safe working environment for Program Participants by training members to follow safety protocols and to follow company policies and procedures. It is the responsibility of the Job Coach to be aware of the surroundings, assess the risks in the environment, and intervene as needed to keep program participants safe.
  • Be a model employee:Staff are to model for the Program Participant proper work ethic by following safety guidelines, company policies and procedures, job procedures, and modeling a positive attitude. This includes motivating program members to fully participate in available learning opportuni ies at GCRC.
  • Teach life skills:** In addition to the hard skills taught through the work program, staff are to teach program members the skills necessary to be successful while working in the community. For example social skills, dress, hygiene, healthy relationships, teamwork, etc.

Responsibilities specific to Warehouse Coach:

*Pick up donations: *The Warehouse coach is to pick up donations in the community in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. This includes contacting customers to arrange for pickup, following a schedule of arranged pickup and delivery times, and treating both the customer and their donation with respect.
