In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more. Several educational institutions also are nearby, including a Northern Arizona University satellite campus, Eastern Arizona College, and the Gila Institute for Technology.
Description
Under general supervision, provides highly skilled technical knowledge and guidance for designated maintenance groups at assigned sites. Makes repairs, troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, conducts routine maintenance and installs equipment as required.
Assist in the development and training of employees in the mechanical maintenance area.
May assist in the repair of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as well as other support equipment.
Assist in the planning and preparation for scheduled jobs. Creates work orders, warehouse purchase requisition and direct purchase requisition for unscheduled jobs.
Assist site management by actively participation in safety programs including behavioral audits, JSA’s, SOP’s, Near Miss Reporting, Metals and other programs determined by management.
Assist management in complying with company policies and procedures and environmental compliance.
Make sound operating and maintenance decisions based and link to best business practices.
Assists in the development of department operating maintenance and capital budgets.
Participates in the Mentoring Process for all employees
Serves as a member on the selection panel for Certified Diagnostic Mechanics.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Six (6) years of relevant experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist, or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safetySelected Candidate shall pass the Panel Interview
Successful candidate must work under minimal supervision and work overtime as required.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic equipment
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of rigging procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of Ellipse
Knowledge of cost control concepts and budget preparation
Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, Blueprints and schematics for trouble shooting and repair
Good safety and attendance records
Must be eligible for transfer/promotion as per the Guiding Principles (internal candidates)
Successful candidate will have had leadership training or equivalent
FPM Certified Diagnostic Mechanic: 75% FLEX score required; Welding 3G qualification; Practical Assessments defined in LOP.
HEM Certified Diagnostic Mechanic: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP; Completed 39 courses or tested out in HEM FLEX.
Shovel/Drill Certified Diagnostic Mechanic: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP; Completed additional 31 courses or tested out in SDHEM FLEX.
Criteria/Conditions:
This is a Safety sensitive role
Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
Work schedule may include weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime at a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week, 365 day/ year operation.
Regular and reliable attendance required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses w/side shields, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.

What We Offer You
The estimated pay range for this role is currently $35.00- $47.00/hour . This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
