Must have the following in order to apply:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years' experience coordinating sanitation and/or recycling services environment including routing, staffing, and equipment
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License, with air brake endorsement; ability to operate all Sanitation trucks and equipment
  • Municipal Management Certification or Recycling Coordinator Course
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and extended hours as needed

Job Description:


Under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor, performswork involving the coordination of the residential, commercial, and recycling programs in the Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include the coordination of maintenance and assignment of sanitation vehicles and employees in subordinate positions to perform and manage daily activities associated with the collection and disposal of all solid waste collection, brush collection and recycling in accordance with all applicable City codes and Departmental policies. Work involves the operation of motorized sanitation equipment and vehicles used to load and transport solid waste. Will be contacted by telephone for call-out after hours. The work is performed with independence under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor and is reviewed through observations and obtained results.


JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs and directs employees in the operation and maintenance of facility, property, equipment, and services assigned to the Sanitation Division.

Establishes work schedules, adjusts routes and assigns vehicles and equipment.

Manually collect residential and commercial solid waste materials and operate heavy duty sanitation equipment used to load and transport solid waste and debris.

Instructs and trains personnel in operation and maintenance of equipment and procedures necessary in the operation of municipal solid waste.

Maintain meetings with staff.This includes team meetings, training/development, scheduled one-on-ones, and daily pre/post sh ft discussions.

Participates in employee development and other in-service training and safety courses.

Instructs and trains employees in the operation of equipment; performs safety inspections on equipment used for the collection and disposal of solid waste.

Monitor the work of crews during collection operations; check for problems and resolve as necessary.

Performs route and efficiency studies; assists in the completion of daily and periodic reports.

Investigates, responds to and resolves citizen complaints.

Estimates charges for special picks and arranges for pickups.

Reviews customer requests for new and revised solid waste collection services, examines area and facilities and assists in establishing new collection schedules.

Investigates accidents on location, arranges for treatment of any injured employee, prepares injury and accident reports, and recommends follow-up action as needed.

Emphasizes policies and procedures for employees engaged in the collection and servicing of sanitation accounts.

Maintains equipment and supply inventories.

Assists in shuttling sanitation equipment to and from worksites and repair facilities to expedite repairs and reduce equipment down-time.

Establish and maintain working relationships with employees, businesses and the public as necessitated by the work.

Establish and maintain working relationships with other City Departments,

Plan, lay out, coordinate, schedule and direct the work of personnel engaged in solid waste and brush collection and disposal activities.

Maintain records and prepare reports as necessary.

Enforce regulations.
