California Dental Association Product Development & Reporting Manager (Insurance Underwriting) in Sacramento, California

Remote position, with occasional in-office meetings and trainings. Preference for candidates in greater Sacramento area. 

Pay range - $98,700 - $130,000

Job Purpose

Responsible for oversight and management of current insurance product line, development of new insurance products, ensuring product offerings are competitive, meeting market opportunities, and in regulatory compliance with the states in which The Dentists Insurance Company conducts business.  Responsible for Underwriting Operational Reporting as well as oversight of staff for Regulatory reporting including but not limited to Department of Insurance and WCIRB (WCPols and UnitStat). Position includes direct supervision of staff.

  • Manages development of products from design to implementation, including the operational aspects of product implementation addressing business and system impacts.

  • Responsible for creating the product development lifecycle in collaboration with key business stakeholders including Marketing/Sales, Legal, Finance, IT and Service.

  • Develops product attributes as defined to deliver on market potential and strategic objectives. 

  • Conducts ongoing product evaluation and recommend enhancements to products.  Track, evaluate and provide company-wide reporting on product success, relevancy and competitiveness.

  • Conducts ongoing competitor research to determine and remain current on product and coverage changes.

  • Responds to inquiries regarding product business rules and work with business partners to resolve product issues.

  • Responsible for ensuring products and coverages meet requirements of state regulatory insurance departments.  Assist in the preparation of documents to be filed with state regulatory agencies. 

  • Manages all policy forms electronically, ensuring the latest versions are available and protected on the intranet.

  • Manages TDICs SERFF filings.

  • Responsible for oversight, mentoring and development of staff.

  • Responsible for oversight of WCIRB UNITSTAT, WCPOLS and departmental reporting

  • Maintaining quality standards and timelines are met by team members. 

  • Responsible for tracking and updating Filings History logs

  • Maintain library of all filed documents

  • Point of contact for ISO, WCIRB & ISRB

  • Maintains Underwriting intranet including procedural manual updates

  • Works weekly financial disbursement reports and authorizes premium refunds.

    Non-Essential Functions

  • Completing special projects as directed by the VP of Underwriting

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Required Education, Licenses & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum of six years of experience in commercial lines or professional liability underwriting.

  • Thorough knowledge of insurance regulatory guidelines and policy forms, and ability to interact with Department of Insurance staff to answer SERFF filing objections.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrating diplomacy and tact while interacting with all levels within and outside the organization.

  • Superior analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing own workflow, prioritizing multiple work assignments and resolving questions and problems with management and peers.

  • Must be able to perform job duties independently, exercising good judgment and professionalism. 

  • Requires computer skills, including the ability to operate Access, Guidewire, Windows/Microsoft Office and the SERFF Filing system. 

    Preferred Education, Licenses & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

  • CPCU, RPLU, or other insurance related designations preferred

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form.

  • Proficiency in using both objective and subjective thought processes in performing job duties.

  • Constantly reviewing and analyzing data on a computer screen and physical documents.
