NBC Universal KCSO News Intern, Content Producer – Fall/Winter 2024 in Sacramento, California

Telemundo Station Group, part of the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations division of NBCUniversal, is comprised of 26 local television stations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Producing and broadcasting more than 15,000 hours of unique and relevant local content each year, including award-winning news, public affairs, and entertainment programming, Telemundo Station Group serves the largest Hispanic television markets in the country including Los Angeles, New York, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago, San Antonio, San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, Harlingen, Orlando, Fresno, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., San Diego, Tampa, Denver, El Paso, Boston, Las Vegas, Tucson, Hartford, Fort Myers, Springfield, Salt Lake City, Richmond, Sacramento and Puerto Rico. In addition, Telemundo Station Group operates TeleXitos, a national multicast network that offers viewers popular action and adventure television series and feature films in Spanish. The group also provides support to 50 Telemundo affiliates across the country and manages dedicated local websites and applications, as well as a robust digital out-of-home operation.

Recruitment Timeline:  

August 26th – Sep 9th: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume) 

Academic Year Internship Program:

  • Program Dates: September 16, 2024 – December 13, 2024

  • Time Commitment: 30-40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

  • Format: Internship is on-site, intern will be required to report to the Sacramento, CA station: 500 Media Place. Sacramento, CA

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through December 2024). 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to December 2024). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Must be available to work 30 -40 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to December 13, 2024.

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish (written and verbal fluently)

  • Must be willing to work in Sacramento, CA.

Job Description

  • Select, assign, write, and organize news stories. Write headlines, teases, and reporter lead-ins

  • Write new scripts, promotional teasers, headlines and topicals.

  • Contribute story ideas, participate in daily coverage decisions and editorial meetings.

  • Assist in the overall production, content, and elements of each newscast

  • Collaborate with news producers, managers and photographers across the group to conceptualize, write, edit, and produce Telemundo news specials and packages based on either breaking or pre-planned stories

  • Communicate with news producers, assignment editors and managers across the division regarding local story development, progress in the field and/or breaking news stories

Desired Characteristics:

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Excellent computer skills (specially search skills)

  • The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $17.00 per hour

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES:

To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Fall” and “Spring” semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school’s International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program.

Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
