Indian Health Service Adolescent Residential Treatment Specialist in Sacaton, Arizona

Summary This position is located at the Desert Visions Youth Wellness Center (DVYWC), Behavioral Health Department located in Sacaton, AZ. The primary role of the counselor will focus on treating substance use disorder, while also focusing on co-occurring disorders that clients may present with upon entering treatment. The position duties include psycho-educational services, prevention, treatment, aftercare, training, intervention, assessment, referrals, and multidisciplinary consultative services. Responsibilities Provides intensive residential therapeutic services, consultation, and support to the residential clients at DVYWC/NSYWC. Primary focus will be in the area of substance abuse, addictions, and co-occurring disorders (prevention, treatment, and aftercare). Provides counseling and follow-up services for residents (individuals/group) to include supportive, family, group, cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal therapies. Assists in referral to other resources and inpatient sites where indicated. Provides case, program and clinical consultation to staff at DVYWC/NSYWC and other providers in order to ensure quality of services in accordance with TJC Standards of Care for Behavioral Health, Quality of Care Standards, Quality Management and Improvement Standards, and other applicable IHS and state Standards. Collaborates with and provides consultation to referral sources, treatmentteam, and, home tribal health and social services, judicial system, Bureau of Indian Affairs, community services, law enforcement, etc., in promoting behavioral health and addition prevention, treatment, and aftercare program activities through individual and group meetings. Maintains appropriate continuing education for licensure renewal and provides documentation of same to credentialing staff to maintain up-to- date clinical privileges. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications and Selective Placement Factor stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-12:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Providing a full range of professional clinical behavioral health services of complex technical difficulty including evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, counseling, referral, psychotherapy, crisis intervention and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders to patients and families. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following license is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Applicant must possess the ability to independently practice mental behavioral health as evidence by possession of one of the following licenses: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Psychologist, And Regardless of Licensure, applicant must possess the ability to function independently to provide care for mental health and substance abuse disorders per the states scope of practice. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
