McDermott Rigging Engineer in Sabine Pass, Texas

Job Overview:

Provide technical support, review, and approve critical risk heavy lifting and transportation operations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the rigging department

  • Manage and develop lift plans, approve moderate risk lifts, verify critical lifts prior to cct approval, do heavy haul coordination, determine crane configurations, and rigging design

  • Develop strong team

  • Coordinate the work activities of all involved crafts within a discipline during the entire construction effort, if required

  • Assist the project team by providing input to identify key success factors, timing of design and procurement deliverables, and establishing common work breakdown structures

  • Provide leadership to the creation of organizational structure and processes required to fully execute the requirements of services and is responsible for the execution of rigging services, quality, subcontractor performance, and construction cost

  • Evaluate rigging service execution for compliance to contract, design data, schedule, cost budgets, and quality, advising the project team of status, issues, impacts, risk, and cost influence factors on “to go” scope

  • Ensure that company objectives, policies, programs, and procedures are consistently adhered to

  • Follow Industry Standards and Norms while conducting all work scopes

  • Ensure the maintenance plan for all departmental equipment is followed

  • Adopt company health, safety, and environmental programs and ensure the implementation

  • Study production schedules and estimate worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments

  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality, and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency

  • Ensure that all department housekeeping duties are completed

  • Ensure direct reports are trained on how to evaluate their employees

  • Forecast and control budgets for the cost center within the department

  • Coordinate and recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines

  • Analyze and resolve work problems and or assist foremen in solving daily work problems

  • Approve personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, terminations, and disciplinary actions

  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., civil, mechanical, or structural)

  • Certification in rigging and heavy haul operations (e.g., Certified Rigging Technician, Certified Heavy Haul Specialist)

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, load calculations, and rigging techniques

  • Proven experience in planning and executing large-scale heavy haul and rigging projects

  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, coordination, and problem-solving

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed

  • Self-motivated, self-reliant, and able to operate independently, while exercising good independent judgment and decision-making

  • Ability to work with Engineering to develop the “Right Plan” for ALL Lifting scenarios

  • Ability to set up, coordinate, and control multi-crane lifts

  • Ability to understand detailed engineering/fabrication drawings

  • Knowledge of ALL BTH lifting tools and equipment

  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and requirements as they pertain to rigging

  • Planning & scheduling knowledge and the ability to liaise with other crafts and disciplines effectively
