Corewell Health Lab Clerk in Royal Oak, Michigan

Corewell Health operates over 300 outpatient clinics across Michigan, bringing a multitude of care options to the communities that we serve. There are over 40 different types of primary care and specialty practices, which allows those who work in these clinics the opportunity to learn and explore various interests or to specialize in one area.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

General clerical duties such as handling telephone inquiries and call distribution; distribution of patient results, filing, sorting, delivery, etc. Maintain inventory and supplies. Some Lab housekeeping. Duties may vary dependent on assigned site/department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Clerical duties: filing, some typing, check worksheets, maintains records, arrange long term offsite storage, distribute mail, etc. Telephone inquiries and add-ons – including internal calls from nursing units and external calls from physicians.

  2. Supplies – process orders for standing PO’s, stores, and ad hoc orders. Stock and inventory materials. Prepare returns.

  3. General laboratory maintenance and housekeeping: counters, sinks, refrigerators, bulletin boards, specimen disposal, glass washing, etc.

  4. Sort, organize, and file reports, blocks and slides. Prepare material for Tumor Board. Package, document and send out specimens (reports, slides, blocks) to third parties. Track specimen based on location, internally and externally.

  5. Participates in:

    · Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department.

    · Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

    · Training new hires as applicable/assigned.

    · Staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned.

  6. Cost effectiveness: Efficient use of time in completing tasks accurately and timely. Mindful of appropriate use of laboratory funds through purchase requests and the observance of wasteful use of supplies.

  7. Maintenance and function checks on defined equipment
