Position Description

TheSt. David’s School of Nursing (http://www.nursing.txstate.edu/) at Texas State University is seeking clinical nursing faculty who will also serve as Director of the Simulation Lab at the clinical assistant professor, clinical associate professor, or clinical professor level for a nine-month appointment with an additional yearly summer contract.

The responsibilities of the Director of the Simulation Laboratory include:

  • Establishing, maintaining, and coordinating student learning experiences and the daily operations in the clinical simulation laboratories.

Faculty responsibilities include:

  • Participation in teaching and curriculum development primarily in general undergraduate and specialty clinical areas, focusing on simulation lab instruction.

This position will be located in the nursing building on the Texas State Round Rock Campus located in Round Rock, Texas. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will be given the appropriate rank and title based on college and university policies and standards. Positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

For the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor:

  • Hold a BSN degree AND a Master’s degree in Nursing (If a Master’s in a related field, must have 12 hours of graduate nursing education course work).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas.

  • At least two years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.

  • A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience.

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning consistent with the program vision, mission, and goals as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with faculty.

For the rank of Clinical Associate Professor, in addition to those required above:

  • Hold a doctorate in nursing or related field or current enrollment in a doctoral program.

  • A demonstrated record of accomplishments or activities in scholarship, teaching, and service.

  • At least five years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.

  • A minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience at the university level.

  • Demonstrated strong collegial relationships.

For the rank of Clinical Professor, in addition to those required above:

  • Hold a doctorate in nursing or related field.

  • At least ten years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.

  • A minimum of ten years of full-time teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current doctorate degree or enrollment in a doctoral program.

  • Experience in management of daily operations, personnel, and equipment and supplies of a simulation laboratory serving 100-400 BSN students and telehealth simulations for MSN students.

  • Experience in program development, curriculum design, informatics and communications systems, simulation, and teaching undergraduate nursing.

  • Experience with formats of distance education, to include on-line instruction and online, telehealth simulations.

  • Experience in interprofessional education and strategic plan development.

  • Experience in higher education including accreditation, program review, and assessment.

  • Certification in one or more nursing specialties or nursing education.

  • Record of accomplishments in scholarly/creative activities, including grantsmanship, extramural funding, and service.

  • Experience in building and promoting community relationships.

  • Demonstrated faculty cooperative support and team development.
