A Quality Engineer in defense manufacturing plays a crucial role in ensuring that products meet stringent standards and regulations required for defense applications. Responsibilities include:

  1. Quality Assurance: Developing and implementing quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure that products meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  2. Compliance: Ensuring compliance with defense industry regulations and standards, such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
  3. Inspection and Testing: Conducting inspections and tests on materials, components, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards. This may involve non-destructive testing, dimensional inspection, and other evaluation methods.
  4. Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for process improvement and implementing changes to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase efficiency.
  5. Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of quality control processes, inspections, and test results. This documentation is critical for audits and compliance checks.
  6. Root Cause Analysis: Investigating and identifying the root causes of quality issues and developing corrective and preventive actions to address them.
  7. Supplier Quality Management: Working with suppliers to ensure that the materials and components they provide meet quality standards. This may involve supplier audits and assessments.
  8. Training and Support: Providing training and support to manufacturing staff on quality standards and procedures to ensure consistent application of quality practices.
  9. Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and supply chain, to address quality issues and ensure that products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  10. Risk Management: Identifying potential risks to product quality and developing mitigation strategies to address them.
