Automatic Building Controls Application Engineer in Rolling Meadows, Illinois

As an Application Engineer at Automatic Building Controls, you will be responsible for applying engineering principles to design, implement, and optimize solutions for building automation, energy management, HVAC control systems, and other smart building technologies. This role focuses on ensuring that customer requirements are met efficiently and effectively while maintaining the high standards of performance and energy efficiency that ABC is known for.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design: Design and configure building automation systems and control systems for HVAC, lighting, fire, and security systems.

 Technical Support: Provide technical support to customers, internal teams, and vendors by troubleshooting system issues, performing system diagnostics, and proposing solutions.

 Project Coordination: Work with project managers, contractors, and customers to ensure the successful implementation of building automation systems, from specification to commissioning.

 Customization and Integration: Customize solutions to meet specific customer requirements, including integrating third-party systems with ABC products, including the Distech and Siemens lines.

 Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for system designs, configurations, and user manuals.

 Testing and Validation: Conduct testing and validation of systems to ensure functionality and performance standards are met.

 Customer Training: Provide training to customers on how to use and maintain the installed systems.

 Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, sales, and product development teams to ensure solutions meet customer needs and align with company goals.

Required Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Experience: Experience in building automation systems, HVAC control systems, or energy management systems. Previous experience with controls products or similar solutions is often preferred.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of building automation protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks), control systems, and software tools used for system configuration and programming (e.g., Tridium, Honeywell, Siemens).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose system issues and provide effective solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare technical documentation and interact with customers. Certifications in specific building automation systems or energy management software (e.g., Niagara, Tridium) could be a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Industry Experience: Prior experience with controls products or in building automation is highly desirable. Familiarity with project management practices and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized engineering design software. This role may involve office-based work and on-site visits to customer locations for system installations, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
