Summary:

Plans schedule and organizes patient care in Urgent Care. Assist nurses and physicians with procedures. Performs general office duties.

Serves as a Certified Medical Assistant for a specialty clinic.

Responsibilities:

  1. Displays a professional manner and image. Demonstrates initiative and responsibility. Works as a member of the health care team. Prioritize and performs multiple tasks. Treats all patients with compassion and empathy. Adapts communications to individual's ability to understand.

  2. Uses professional telephone techniques. Practices institutions attendance policies. Makes every attempt to work as requested during unusual circumstances or natural disasters.

  3. Prepare and maintain medical records. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas. Perform inventory of supplies and equipment. Independently schedules appointments. Files daily medical charts.

  4. Accurately dictates telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy. Coordinates patients' referrals and follow-up visits per physicians' instructions. Assists physicians with receiving any further needed patient records. Identifies potential changes/needs in physician’s schedule.

  5. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control. Collects and processes specimens. Obtains patient history and vital signs. Setup/clean patient rooms. Prepare patient for examination, procedures, and treatments. Coordinate patient care information with other health care providers. Documents according to policy.

  6. Contributes to the development and maintenance of a current, individualized, goal-oriented plan of care and consults with other health professionals to assure that the assessed needs of patient/caregiver are met.

  7. Observes, assesses, documents, and reports patient response to treatments/therapies and teaching, and adjusts priorities of care according to patient/caregiver needs. Collects, documents, and reports (to responsible MD or RN) data regarding patient's biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs.

  8. Participates in unit, service, and/or department enrichment activities which contribute to positive outcomes such as assigned committees, CQI activities/groups, and the orientation and education of other personnel.

  9. Provides a broad range of treatments/therapies to patients including, but not limited to, respiratory treatments, Oral/NG/NT suctioning, and tracheostomy care, administration of medications, observation of cardiac monitors, respirators, etc. and reporting of any changes, assistance to physician with special procedures, monitoring of intravenous infusions, performs point of care testing, performs routine laboratory work, changing/irrigating catheters, specialized sterile dressings, and patient/caregiver teaching based upon the established teaching plan.

  10. Provides assistance to patients and families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic experience, and discharge.

  11. Provides support to patients and families. Verbally de-escalates frightened or potentially aggressive patients. Facilitates age-appropriate coping strategies for patients.

  12. Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.

  13. Enter data into the electronic medical record, ensuring the EMR is complete and accurate.

  14. Gather and document clinical information from other current or historical records under the direction of the provider.

  15. Perform other duties that improve the efficiency of the provider such as , assisting with medication reconciliation, documenting procedures and providing communication assistance (message to other providers, scanning, printing or copying medical records).

  16. Must complete annual HIPPA, patient confidentiality and scribe training requirements and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Education Requirements:

● High school graduate or GED.

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● NC CMA License, BCLS

Professional Experience Requirements:

● 2 years in the Healthcare/Medical - Certified Medical Technician (CMT)
