Position: Construction Inspector - Quality Control

Reports to: Construction Quality Control Manager

General Qualities:

  • Basic understanding of quality control principles and product inspection techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.

  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods or willingness to learn.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for accurate data collection and reporting.

  • Communication skills for reporting quality issues and collaborating with senior inspectors and other teams.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) or similar tools for documentation and reporting.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections and tests to ensure products meet established quality standards and specifications.

  • Follow detailed inspection plans and procedures to verify product conformance during various stages of production.

  • Support the quality team in developing inspection methods and procedures for both new and existing products.

  • Help implement corrective actions to address any quality issues identified during inspections.

  • Assist in reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards to understand quality requirements for different products.

  • Support the creation and maintenance of inspection procedures and standards based on technical documents.

  • Gather data during inspections and testing to track product quality.

  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation that comply with internal quality control standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and report nonconforming products to senior quality inspectors or management.

  • Follow instructions for isolating or holding nonconforming products until issues are resolved.

  • Ensure that all inspection activities and quality checks are performed according to established guidelines and specifications.

  • Work within the defined scope of the project or inspection task, ensuring compliance with written procedures.

  • Use basic software tools (such as spreadsheets, databases, or quality management systems) to document inspection results and track quality metrics.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

  • Training and certification in QC principles, such as NETTCP QA Technologist Certification or equivalent, satisfactory to CTDOT.

  • Prior experience in roadway or bridge construction preferred.

Professional Development:

  • Actively participates in professional development and training and licensing.
