Job Title: Certified Phlebotomist

Job Description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture blood drawing and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
