Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, manage, and assess SI, Tutor, and Peer training programs in alignment with UMKC and CRLA standards. Coordinate, supervise, and facilitate student training sessions, workshops, lessons, and other professional development opportunities including Peer-to-Peer Conference. Create procedures and maintain detailed records of all student training activities, including workshops, curricula, and lesson plans.

  • Directly supervise and support assigned number of graduate and undergraduate student employees, including tutors, SI Leaders, and other peers.

  • Collaborate with RIT departments, faculty, and staff to share and implement best practices for SI training models, ASC tutor and peer programs, and student supervision. Provide peer training for RIT departments. Collaborate with faculty, and staff regarding tutor and peer training programs, teaching and learning strategies, student oversight, and student development practices. Coordinate with the RIT tutor, TA, and peer supervisors to provide support for RIT student employees. This includes preparing meeting agendas, establishing timelines, and due dates, and defining goals. Organize and track changes on the official RIT Tutor website.

  • Assist and support student staff observations. Assist and support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of student employees

  • Collaborate with RIT departments, faculty, and staff on teaching/learning practices, support of students’ academic success, and perseverance. Support initiatives within the ASC department, Academic Affairs division, and the university including teaching, coaching, professional development, committees, and other duties as assigned. Build and maintain connections with international SI and Tutoring community.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced degree Master’s degree in higher education, student development, or related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of full-time, professional experience with increasing responsibility in educational programming or student services.

  • Experience with supervising student staff, student training, professional training

Skills:

  • Ability to supervise, train, support, and evaluate student employees.

  • Ability to develop student understanding of learning strategies and academic success content.

  • Experience supporting, and being a member of a large team (adjunct instructors, student leaders).

  • Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.

  • Experience in planning and records management.

  • General knowledge of assessment practices and experience utilizing assessment data to inform practice.

  • Knowledge of Deaf culture preferred.

Job Summary:

The Supplemental Instruction(SI) and Peer Support Program Coordinator for SI, Tutoring, and Peer Support Training is a full-time,12 month position that focuses on providing leadership and coordination for the ASC Tutoring, SI, Peer Training, and Peer Support programs.

Please note: frequent evening and weekend hours expected.

The position is responsible for:

  • The management, coordination, and support of SI, Tutoring, Peer Training, and operations of ASC Study Centers. This includes overseeing SI sessions, conducting training workshops, managing scheduling, and fostering community engagement.

  • The supervision of graduate and undergraduate student employees, including observations and evaluations.

  • Providing individual, small, and large-group instruction, and facilitating training workshops.

  • The management, coordination, and support of training and professional development opportunities for SI, Tutoring, and ASC Peer Support Programs.

The SI program is a structured, peer-led academic support program targeted at courses with high rates of D, F, and W. The SI program at RIT expands steadily each year, promoting leadership development, social responsibility, and academic and professional skills among student employees while providing increasing numbers of students with academic support to reduce their likelihood of earning a D, F, or W in SI-supported courses. The ASC operates two study centers six days a week, up to 13 hours a day, providing tutoring support to over 1,000 students who visit the centers more than 10,000 times annually.

This position is responsible for the supervision and assessment of key programmatic initiatives within the SI and Peer Support Programs, and partners and collaborates with colleges, departments, faculty, and staff regarding the academic success and perseverance of students. This position is part of the SI and Peer Support team and reports to the Assistant Director.
