The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Supervises and directs activities of materials supply to ensure correct receipt and delivery of medical materials & supplies. Provides facilitation and coordination of materials supply functions on patient care units.Responsibilities Position Summary: Provides leadership and participates in the development and management of Orthopedics specific Instrumentation according to best practice standards and procedures. In collaboration with the SPD Management team sets priorities and participates in the day to day operations of processing of Orthopedic instrumentation, problem solving related to any issues, researching, assisting in purchasing and maintaining proper instruments for Orthopedic specific OR procedures. Recommends the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives as directed. Schedules and maintains adequate staffing levels for the Ortho Specific staff in Sterile Processing Department. Job Responsibilities: Staffing and Supervision - Provides direct supervision to the Ortho Specific technicians in SPD for acquiring, cleaning, assembling, sterilizing and delivering Instrumentation related to Orthopedics procedures. - Talent Management: Responsible for orientation, training, and competencies of Ortho Specialists. Involved in the recruiting process especially in regards to the interviews and selection. - Ensures staff competence: Implements a schedule to review, evaluate, and sign off on employee competencies on specific Orthopedics instrumentation in order to ensure SPD staff can demonstrate necessary skills. Documents and maintain skills check list on Ortho specific instrumentation for each employee. - Performance Management: Responsible for performance reviews of Ortho Specialists. Holds staff accountable if they are not meeting the needs of the hospital or department by documenting discussions and initiating disciplinary action when necessary. Monitors quality and productivity of Ortho Specialists, and manages performance when standards are not met. Responsible for development of Ortho Specialists. - Ensures staff is cross trained to ensure adequate staffing levels are met. Instrument Management - Works with Instrument repair coordinator and helps in directing the repair/replacement process of Ortho specific instruments. Evaluates all orders for both replacement and new instrumentation. Follows up with repair coordinator when items have been out for repair for an extended period of time and communicates appropriately with Nursing team and Surgeons. - Directs the location and assembly of Orthopedics specific instruments, sets, and equipment. Updates locations and quantities of Ortho specific instrumentation in Sonar and PMM. - Through expertise in Ortho specific instrumentation and collaboration with physicians and the OR staff while referencing Missing/high turnover instrument data, directs ordering of Ortho specific instrumentation to ensure existing instrument sets are complete and instrument inventory levels match case volume needs in a fiscally responsible manner. Ensures Loaner/Consigned instrumentation is received in a timely manner and Sterilized prior to Cases. Communicates appropriately and frequently with customers on the status of instrument orders and set completion. - Works with all Orthopedics vendors and facilitates the regular preventative maintenance of the Ortho specific instrumentation. This includes identifying the appropriate rotation of instrumentation with input from our customers to our contracted repair vendors and monitoring instrumentation that needs to go off-site for repair. Vendor Relations: - Meets with sales reps to ensure OR has equipment, implants and instruments as required. - Directs vendors to ensure instruments are checked in properly or consignment levels are appropriate to case volumes. Ensures the instruments are delivered complete, accurate, and sterile for needed cases. - Ensures vendors are repairing/replacing consigned and/or loaned instrumentation to the same standard as the hospital owned instrumentation. - Also ensures the vendor instruments regularly receive a preventative maintenance regime. Develops tray lists for consigned and vendor instrumentation. Holds vendors accountable for delivering and removing sets in the timeframe set forward be department policies. Establishes minimum inventory levels for system specific trays and documents. - Facilitates streamlining of vendor tray content to eliminate waste and overwork while still meeting the needs of their customers. Rounding - Rounds on Ortho specific rooms to ensure needs for the day are met. - Proactively anticipates the needs of the customers the department supports when determining which Ortho Specific instruments, sets, and require processing. Sends communication to necessary parties in regards to these instrumentation needs. Process Improvement and Quality Improvement - Directs the development of tray lists and monitors quality of trays. - Recommends the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives. - Participates on committees or performance improvement teams as directed. - Collects and presents data, productivity surveys, statistical studies, trials and other projects as required. - Responsible to update and report quality metrics for responsible area1s. Assists Shift Supervisor - Collects and analyzes data and assists SPD leadership with implementation of quality assurance measures. Professionalism - Represents the department throughout the Hospital and the community by participation in institutional, community, and professional activities. - Promotes and maintains positive communication with SPD staff, surgeons and nursing staff in the OR in order to ensure accuracy of instruments required for procedures. Administrative - Recommends and assists with operational and capital budgets Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree with course work in Business or Hospital Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer three years' experience in SPD/MPD or equivalent education/Operating Room experience demonstrating progressive knowledge and leadership skills. - Certification required from a nationally recognized Sterile Processing Technician program, or 20+ years of Sterile Processing experience. If not certified, must obtain within six months from date of hire.
