Function of Position:

The Specialist II, Institutional Research, will collect, analyze and interpret data and present research findings to use for planning,

policy analysis, assessment and decision making toward the advancement of the College's mission.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Conduct institutional/educational research projects including: conceptualization of research design, planning, data analysis, interpretation and assessments of results, and the preparation of the final written report

  • Prepare/design surveys for electronic distribution. Analyze, describe, and summarize the results from such surveys for the College.

  • Analyze, describe, and summarize the results from such studies for the College.

  • Compose data using graphic and tabular formats that aid in the understanding of information contained in reports

  • Present research findings to administrators, faculty, and staff.

  • Design and provide studies related to institutional assessment such as graduate employment, transfer outcomes, and alumni opinion.

  • Gather and analyze data for ad-hoc requests.

  • Establish effective working relationships with other College offices in order to understand and fulfill their research needs.

  • Prepare internal summaries and reports from College data sources as well as national, state and local data sources (such as IPEDS, SUNY data warehouse).

  • Create and maintain the Oracle database files that serve as the basis for institutional reporting of follow-up studies and other research projects.

  • Write programs (in Argos/Tableau/SQL) to access information stored in Banner.

  • Perform statistical analysis using SPSS or Python.

  • Use statistical expertise in the analysis of data to assure valid conclusions.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Institutional Research

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution in statistics, mathematics, psychology, or sociology with training in statistical analysis, research methods, and quantitative research beyond introductory courses

  • Experience in survey and database research with complex data sets including manipulating, merging, restructuring and analyzing large data sets

  • Programming ability, proficiency in data management, statistical expertise, attention to detail, and accuracy

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills

  • Scrupulous attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to organize, analyze and summarize data and information for multiple audiences

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting, multi-task and prioritize workflow in order to meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of key issues and concepts in higher education

  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and contribute to a team-based environment

  • Ability to handle confidential materials discreetly and professionally on a routine basis

  • Proficiency, or demonstrate the ability to become proficient in a short time, in using the following software applications: SPSS

  • (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), Argos/Tableau/SQL (programming language for retrieval of data stored in

  • Banner), Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Qualtrics (survey design software), and web-based applications

  • Evidence of proficiency with technology, including a fluency with a variety of computer applications including MS Office components (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Lotus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution in statistics, mathematics, psychology, or

  • sociology with training in statistical analysis, research methods, and quantitative research beyond introductory courses

  • Higher education experience

  • Experience with Banner

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

    Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $57,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
