JOB TITLE:Recovery and Wellness for Older Adults - Program Director

DEPARTMENT:Elder Abuse

PROGRAM:Recovery and Wellness for Older Adults

SUPERVISOR:Vice President for Program

STATUS:Non-exempt (37.5 hours per week)

Hourly: $26.67 to $28.20

SUMMARY

Oversees the Recovery and Wellness for Older Adults (RWOA) and provides addiction counseling and case management for clients of RWOA and their caregivers. RWOA is a geriatric substance misuse intervention and prevention program that uses a harm reduction model of in-home counseling to support older adults to pursue a path of recovery from substance misuse. RWOA currently provides service to older adults in Monroe and Livingston counties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.0 Responsible for program operations for the program.

1.1 Supervises Addiction Counselors and Certified Peer Advocate staff in the program and serves as the clinical expert.

1.2 Develops and monitors program goals and objectives within the policies and procedures of Lifespan.

1.3 Maintains outcome data collected from evidence-based measures to assess the impact the program has on the client.

1.4 Implements the system to track client satisfaction.

1.5 Compiles internal quarterly operational reports evaluating each programs effectiveness for contractual goals and implements quality assurance procedures. Implements any corrective action needed.

1.6 Prepares and submits Lifespan internal and external reports as required in a timely manner.

1.7 Communicates and fosters working relationships with funders.

1.8 Implements quality assurance review for continuous program improvement.

2.0 Provides education around geriatric addictions and advocates for adeqauate services for older adults with substance misuse disorders.

2.1 Provides training to professionals who have contact with older adults around identification of older adults who misuse substances and about resources available to support their recovery, including RWOA.

2.2 Provides education to older adult groups and other members of the public about geriatric addictions and about resources for intervention and recovery.

2.3 Develops program education/outreach materials and training modules with senior management.

2.4 Facilitates and/or initiates collaboration with local chemical dependency treatment facilities, mental health providers, law enforcement, medical providers and judicial entities as appropriate.

2.5 Participates in community advocacy groups or coalitions related to promoting adequate chemical dependency services and resources.

3.0 Maintains the fiscal integrity of the program

3.1 Works with Lifespan Accounting to monitor the actual fiscal results of the program and takes corrective actions as required.

3.2 Assists in the development of new funding sources in consultation with senior management.

4.0 Responsible for personnel, employee relations and training of staff

4.1 Reviews, approves and processes all timesheets and related materials in a timely fashion.

4.2 Reviews and approves all conferences, training and seminars, etc. for staff. Approval for training opportunities should be based on the benefit to the employee for his/her job and the need to keep up to date with developments in the field of substance abuse intervention and prevention.

4.3 Ensures that staff has the most up-to-date information pertaining to geriatric addictions

5.0 Assists with new product development

5.1 Works with senior management to identify gaps in service, suggest new approaches and implement new strategies.

5.2 Fosters relationships with funders, other advocates and other direct service agency to identify strategic partners and alliances to serve consumers in a more efficient and effective manner.

6.0 Clinical operations

6.1 Carries a caseload of RWOA cases as needed.

6.2 Provides comprehensive chemical dependency evaluations in conjunction with assessments of the

medical/social needs of the older adult client in their home environment

7.0 Other

7.1 Attends appropriate workshops and conferences for professional/personal enrichment and skill building.

7.2 Participates in outreach for public awareness regarding the issue of geriatric addiction.

7.3 Maintains knowledge of community resources.

7.4 Maintains knowledge of mental health services for the elderly.

7.5 Maintain professional credentials and licenses.

8.0 Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: BSW, MSW or master’s degree in allied field,NYS-CASAC preferred

EXPERIENCE: Two years in chemical dependency counseling with experience with older adult patients/clients. Experience overseeing a department a plus.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be able to meet with clients in their homes.

· A portion of the work is performed at a desk or at a personal computer station.

· Verbal, written and telephone communication skills are required.

· Strong written and computer skills needed.

· Interface with all levels of personnel.

· Ability to maintain composure under strict deadlines and difficult situations.

· Ability to work in multi-cultural situations.

If working less than 37.5 hours, accrued time is pro-rated.
