The Division (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/surgery/research/cancer-control.aspx) of Supportive Care in Cancer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester invites candidates to apply for a full-time tenure-track faculty position (Assistant, Associate and Full Professor ranks considered). Successful candidates are expected to make significant contributions to the Division's research mission with a preferred focus on cancer-related dissemination and implementation science. The faculty member will also have the opportunity to be an active member of the Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention and Control Program and will contribute to the overall research goals of Wilmot.

The Division, within the Department of Surgery, comprises 17 highly collaborative faculty and trainees conducting a range of research focused on cancer prevention, cancer control and cancer care delivery. The Division offers exceptional opportunities to develop and lead cutting-edge research in cancer control, prevention, and supportive care. The atmosphere of the Division is highly collaborative, with many faculty participating in Multiple Principal Investigator grants and joint publications. The Division uniquely includes 3 PhD-level biostatisticians as well as 2 Masters-level biostatisticians on faculty; dedicated IT support; and regulatory, grants administration, and coordination support. The Division also houses 2 cutting edge labs in translational biomarker research (CCPL (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/labs/cancer-control-psychoneuroimmunology.aspx) ) and human performance assessment and interventions (PEAK (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/physiology-exercise-lab.aspx) ); major infrastructure from both of these labs also comprises the Human Biophysiology Shared Resource. Many faculty within the Division are also members of the Wilmot Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program, investigators in the University of Rochester Cancer Control (URCC) NCI Community Oncology Program (NCORP) Research Base, and mentors within our unique T32 Clinical and Translational Cancer Control Research Training Program. We have an emphasis on cancer control research and on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/research/research-programs/cancer-prevention-control.aspx) :

The CPC Research Program has been conducting cancer control and cancer care delivery research with continuous funding from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for more than 40 years. Under the direction of Drs. Mustian and Mohile, the investigators in this Program work towards a common vision to lower cancer morbidity and mortality through primary prevention and supportive care research.

Members of the CPC program are internationally renowned for their landmark contributions to the field of oncology in specialty areas including: primary prevention, cancer control, supportive care, behavioral oncology, exercise oncology, geriatric oncology, survivorship, health disparities and training. Members of the CPC program have access to all WCI shared resources including: 1) the biostatistics and bioinformatics resource, 2) the clinical trials office and infrastructure, 3) the genomics research center, 4) a tissue bio-specimen repository, 5) the human biophysiology resource for behavioral intervention design and delivery, physical activity and functional assessments, patient-reported outcome assessments, and molecular biological assessments, and 6) the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement

Wilmot Cancer Institute (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute.aspx) :

WCI is comprised of the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center—our flagship 86-bed, inpatient and outpatient facility located on the University of Rochester Academic Medical Center campus contiguous with Strong Memorial Hospital—and 14 additional outpatient locations (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/locations.aspx) covering a 27-county region surrounding Rochester. WCI offers patients and their families comprehensive services including one of upstate New York’s largest blood and bone marrow transplant programs, one of the only ACOS-accredited Breast Cancer Centers, and the first clinical Survivorship and Integrative Oncology Programs.

University of Rochester Cancer Control NCI Community Oncology Research Program (URCC NCORP) Research Base: (https://urcc-ncorp.org/)

WCI is home to one of only two NCI-funded NCORP Research Bases in the United States in an Academic Medical Center (MPIs Mustian and Morrow). The URCC NCORP Research Base is a legacy Research base with a long and sustained track record of funding, success and growth; URCC is one of the original Research Bases that were funded within the NCI Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) in 1983—the predecessor to today’s NCORP. The URCC NCORP Research Base is a research hub for investigators where they can utilize a network of >25 NCI-funded community-based NCORP affiliates across the United States, which includes more than 700 geographically different community-based oncology practices and a highly-efficient infrastructure for clinical trial recruitment across the U.S. This resource provides unique sources of collegial support, scientific expertise, and infrastructure to aid with development of scientific ideas and grants, as well as, the conduct of studies within the regional WCI catchment area and the national NCORP catchment area.

Clinical and Translational Cancer Control Research Training Program (CCRTP): (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/education/postdoctoral-training/cancer-control-research-training-program.aspx)

The WCI CCRTP (MPIs Janelsins, Peppone, and Morrow) provides PhD and MD trainees with the tools and experiences necessary to establish careers as outstanding independent investigators in clinical and translational cancer control research. To date, we have trained 49 fellows over 20 years with 90% of them remaining in the area of cancer research and care; 72% of former fellows are now Associate/Full Professors. Fellows have achieved over $100M in NIH funding including over 30 career development awards. Throughout our history, we have recruited >50% women and >30% trainees from racial and ethnic marginalized backgrounds.

Qualifications

Requirements.

· PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent doctoral degree

· Strong track record of independent external funding

· Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong record of extramural funding, strong publications, capacity for excellence in mentoring, the ability to provide community and instititional service, and experience in implementation science. Investigators with a research focus on the dissemination and implementation of novel and effective interventions in the context of oncology will be prioritized.

o Topic areas of high interest include implementation and dissemination of cancer prevention, cancer control, and cancer supportive care interventions.

· Track record of scholarly production with recognizable and significant impact.

Academic rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Proposed start time: summer 2024.
