Position Title:

NTID ALANA Staff Retention Specialist

Organization:

NTID Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and supporting retention strategies and efforts based on employees’ feedback which could include workshops, finding training and course opportunities, and review policies and programs that will attract and retain staff at NTID

  • Assist with the onboarding process for new staff beyond what the RIT DEI offer

  • Develop and offer workshops and events based on NTID employees’ feedback

  • Support ALANA deaf and hard of hearing staff find training and resources beyond what is available from RIT DEI resources

  • Communicating effectively with employees and serving as a liaison to NTID Office of Diversity and Inclusion

  • Identifying internal and community-based resources to help employees feel a sense of belonging

  • Compiling and presenting data related to ALANA staff retention

  • Encourage professional work relationships by hosting outings or events (e.g. company-sponsored sports teams or volunteer events)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of experience as a staff member in higher education

  • 4+ years of experience working with deaf and hard of hearing ALANA individuals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency/Fluency in American Sign Language or willingness to learn, and familiarity with the deaf and hard of hearing community, are strongly preferred.

Job Summary:

The Retention Specialist’s primary goals will be to design and implement programming and initiatives that focus on strategies to increase employee satisfaction and long-term retention of NTID ALANA staff. This position will become an executive team member of Office of Diversity and Inclusion at NTID and in concert with RIT Division of Diversity and Inclusion. The NTID ALANA Staff Retention specialist will lead NTID-wide onboarding efforts, implement retention strategies, and compile reports for NTID Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

The NTID ALANA Staff Retention Specialist will interact directly with NTID employees, identify barriers and opportunities for career growth and promotion, and devote attention to improving the retention of our ALANA Staff employees at NTID. A successful retention specialist should have persuasion and interpersonal skills in order to meet institutional goals and efforts and foster employees’ overall satisfaction.
