Position Summary

The Manager, R&D Portfolio Program Management, provides business and technical leadership for new product development projects within the R&D Pipeline supporting one or more of Bausch and Lomb’s core businesses.

This role provides cross-functional leadership of assigned projects, working with various R&D functions, operations, quality, regulatory, finance, legal, procurement, business development and commercial to plan and execute projects successfully to meet company goals/objectives.

The Project Manager is responsible for developing (with their cross-functional team) the project development strategy, including understanding and translating customer requirements, business case/valuation, project scope, budget, schedule, project risk management and communication plan. This role is responsible for the project through all stages of development and lifecycle planning/execution, following quality/compliance requirements and delivering products and the manufacturing process that are robust and that meet commercial needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional project team(s) to develop a robust global product strategy (GPS) for developing and launching new products into global markets. The GPS includes project scope, financial analysis (inc. market research, cash flow, capital, and product positioning), TPP and key value drivers, project schedule and budget, and project risk analysis (with response planning).

  • Track and manage the project schedule and task details against the plan, analyze actual performance against the plan and make adjustments consistent with plan objectives and milestones.

  • Translate program technical objectives into actionable deliverables (timeline, budget, resources) across multi-functional areas.

  • Make technical decisions based on risk analysis and develop mitigation plans as required. Ensure technical soundness of recommendations and conclusions.

  • Manage project expense and capital budgets.

  • Effectively manage changing priorities and work streams (agility) to deliver scope on time and to budget.

  • Coordinate design control related activities, including design reviews.

  • The candidate will present project updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders regarding project status, and any critical problems which may result in unsatisfactory performance, delays in project schedule, or significant changes in project cost. Lead team to mitigate any issues.

  • Plan and conduct team meetings and reviews. Ensure documentation is complete and properly maintained and filed according to company policies.

  • Lead team to complete activities such as process/product optimization, yield improvement, cost reduction, capability assessments, equipment qualifications and process validations with activities document in a product development summary report.

  • Develop and support new manufacturing processes and technologies.

  • Ensure product quality and all tasks are in accordance with established SOPs, GMPs, Global Specifications, design control, and EHS standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering. Advanced Degree in Science, Engineering and/or Management preferred.

  • Special Skills: Strong Communication, Organization and Presentation skills a must. Must be able to develop working relationships with various internal stakeholders and influence others outside of their immediate control. Computer Literacy with skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint.

  • Specialized Training: MS Project (or equivalent) preferred. Design for Six Sigma experience preferred. PMP certification a plus

  • 3-5 years of Medical Device and/or Pharmaceutical product development experience

  • 1-3 years of R&D Project Management experience, directly leading/driving new product development projects/programs

  • Demonstrated cross functional leadership and the ability to drive projects forward, manage budgets, and mitigate/communicate risks.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual salary for this role is $105,000 to $150,000.
