Community Place of Greater Rochester Housing Search Navigator in Rochester, New York
Title: Housing Search Navigator Classification: Full-Time; 37.5 hours per week (M - F 8:30a-5:00p; some nights and weekends)Pay Rate: $18.00/hr The Housing Search Navigator plays a critical role in helping individuals and families navigate the often-complex process of finding affordable housing. This position provides personalized assistance and support to clients seeking stable, affordable housing options, with a focus on low-income individuals, families, seniors, and other vulnerable populations. The Housing Search Navigator works directly with clients to assess their housing needs, provide guidance on available resources, and assist with applications, documentation, and landlord communication.This a hybrid position.Job Duties- Conduct intake assessments to understand clients' housing needs, eligibility for assistance programs, and personal circumstances.- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including intake forms, housing search progress, referral documentation and track outcomes using provided reporting tools.- Provide tailored support in identifying suitable housing options based on client preferences, budget, and availability.- Research available rental properties, including affordable housing listings, waiting lists, and subsidized housing opportunities.- Assist clients in completing housing application materials, including obtaining required documents and supporting paperwork.- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal affordable housing programs, including public housing, Section 8, etc.- Maintain relationships with local housing authorities, landlords, and property owners to stay informed about new housing openings and opportunities.- Screen clients for other social determinants of health and connect clients to other community resources, such as financial assistance programs, utility assistance, health home care management, legal, and health related support.- Participate in case reviews and attend meetings as designated.- Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skill and Abilities- Knowledge of affordable housing programs, tenant rights, and fair housing laws is highly desirable.- Demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, including low-income individuals, families, seniors, and people experiencing homelessness or housing instability.- Contribute to a creative, collaborative, and respectful environment that promotes teamwork and an anti-racist, community-centered mindset.- Demonstrate commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and adherence to company policies and procedures in all professional interactions and handling of sensitive information.- Ability to meet clients at rental housing units, as needed.- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex housing processes to people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.- Problem-solving ability and a client-centered approach to support individuals through challenges.- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with co-workers, supervisors, organizations, the general public, and offices of local government.- Knowledge of Monroe County Social Services, referring agencies, and mental health systems.- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.Physical ElementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
