Position Summary:
The Heat Treat Operator efficiently and safely operates heat treat and plating equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
Carburizing:
Incoming inspection and check in to ensure process documents and quality conformance
Loading and unloading parts from carburizing fixtures (some heavy lifting required)
Loading and unloading carburizing pit furnaces (overhead crane operation required)
Operating and maintaining furnace temperatures and atmospheres
Test piece inspection utilizing metallograph and micro hardness testers
Test piece preparation utilizing mounting and polishing equipment
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
Press Quenching
Quench machine set up and operation (some heavy lifting required)
Size inspection of parts utilizing micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and other
Loading and unloading austenitizing furnaces (heavy lifting and overhead crane operation required)
Quench tooling assembly and storage (some heavy lifting and stacker operation required)
Operating and maintaining furnace temperatures and atmospheres
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
Plating
Performs analysis on chemical balances and maintains prescribed level of chemicals in plating bath solutions.
Troubleshoots plating of parts and all plating processes and resolves any problems or discrepancies to ensure quality work.
Operates and maintains ANDCO Heavy Metal Removal and recycled water system and investigates and resolves and related problems.
Performs strip plating, oxide coating, and proper cleaning methods prior to plating.
Masks or stops off areas of parts not to be plated, according to print specifications, and fixtures them prior to plating.
Electroplates all metal parts, or copper.
Reads blueprints to determine surface area of part where plating is required.
Reads blueprints and designs fixtures for holding parts to be plated accordingly.
Determines current density, plating time, and rectification values required for copper.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities
Performs general labor duties associated with heat treat operations.
Reference written process instruction for proper recipes, specifications and tooling to ensure quality product
Lead / support continuous improvement projects to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
Maintains clean and safe work area
Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions
Operate and set up flame hardening machine
Familiarize and train other Heat Treat operators using process documentation, quality tools and processes
Perform other duties as required and assigned
Read and maintain charts on furnace
Use computer terminal to complete heat treat operations in production database
Responsible and accountable for quality of work produced documenting on process documents and inspection forms.
Operate 3 gas analyzer, straighteners, steel and glass bead blasters, hardness tester, parts washers, and package parts.
Read and interpret complex engineering processes, process sketches, and blueprints
Operating an overhead crane and forklift to load and unload furnace.
Maintain controls on furnaces and gas generators (nitrogen and Endo) to ensure proper settings, dew points and carbon potential.
Tests all parts for conformity
Make minor repairs
Work independently with engineers and others on various aspects of Lean production techniques to drive
