Objectives

This engineer will participate and guide packaging development activities for Contact Lens R&D. This will include primary and secondary packaging designs, improvements, and new technologies.

This engineer will participate and guide process development activities, writing protocols, data gathering, and analysis as needed.

The candidate will be proficient in reporting and presentation of data analysis.

The candidate will work with and help define automation requirements as related to packaging and process development activities.

The individual will be involved in the identification, research and development of new packaging materials, components, external collaborations, as well as package designs.

The candidate will be interfacing with an internal cross functional team and external vendors while working on these programs.

The candidate will provide Mechanical Engineering expertise and design capability in support of packaging and process development activities.

Responsibilities

Design, execute, and analyze experiments.

Provide process optimization as needed.

Function as the packaging SME on project teams, ensuring team understanding of packaging requirements, standards and testing.

Lead evaluations of new package designs, materials and processing technologies.

Develop and support new manufacturing processes and technologies.

Support existing manufacturing processes, quality improvements and cost reductions.

Ensure product quality and all tasks are in accordance with established SOPs, GMPs, Divisional Specifications, and EHS+S standards.

Train manufacturing and junior personnel in required operations.

May be engineering lead on projects.

Requirements

Education: Degree in an Engineering Discipline. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering preferred.

Specialized Training: Solidworks Experience required. Six Sigma Green Belt and DFSS experience preferred. MiniTab/JMP Statistical software preferred.

Experience: 3-9 years in Engineering role, preferably mechanical or packaging engineering. Hands-on experience and technical expertise in a development environment a must. ISO-9000, GMP, medical device manufacturing experience a plus. Experience with high volume and/or high precision manufacturing a plus. Statistical analysis required within a development or manufacturing setting.

Special Skills: Computer Literacy with skills in Solidworks, Microsoft Excel, Word, and MiniTab, JMP (or equivalent software). Experience in Statistical Analysis including DOE and SPC. Communication, Organization, Report Writing, and Presentation skills a must. Must be able to develop working relationships with various internal core competencies and work as a team member.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual salary for this role is $70,000 to $105,000.
