GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Community Educator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing prevention education programs to increase awareness of child abuse and other threats to child safety in our community. The programs goal is to raise awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child abuse by educating the community, including school age children, about the steps they can take to recognize and prevent child abuse. This position works directly with a wide array of community members and youth serving organizations, including professionals, adults, and children.

This position reports to the Manager of Community Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver education programs to community members and youth serving organizations using streamlined curriculum, increasing awareness and prevention of child sexual/physical abuse. Provide educational programming to children in various settings including classrooms, out of school recreation programs or summer camps using structured curriculum material. Utilize a trauma-informed approach while interacting with children around sensitive topics including child sexual abuse. Engage with community stakeholders, including organizations serving children, sports organizations, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions. Promote training opportunities and engage the community, often at tabling events and fairs focused on audiences directly associated with children. Assist in the implementation of goals, policies, and procedures for the Community Education Department. Stay current on prevention education best practices and Child Advocacy (MDT) strategies to continually improve and enhance program offerings. Seek out and engage in continuing education materials related to child abuse prevention and regularly review current literature/research. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in education, human services, health or related field and a minimum of one year of experience in training and/or education, teaching, or community outreach. Background knowledge of child abuse and/or Child Advocacy Centers a plus. Knowledge of child development strongly preferred. Bilingual candidates

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Strong written and public speaking presentation skills. Highly organized and detailed oriented. Knowledge of effective presentation/training techniques. Familiarity with the legal, social service, medical and mental health systems responsible for protecting children. Ability to travel locally as needed. Ability to effectively prioritize and organize assignments independently in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to build and maintain positive, professional working relationships with multiple stakeholders. Ability to adhere to a flexible work schedule including periodic evenings and weekends.
