Communications and Outreach Coordinator

Job Responsibilities:

Oversee outreach efforts to individuals and community groups for the purpose of recruiting families to participate in our research studies and share our research goals and findings with the community

• Develop recruitment materials and flyers compliant with IRB rules

• Maintain documentation of community contacts in MS Excel (what materials was sent to whom and when, responses noted)

• Screen candidate participants for eligibility for various studies for enrollment

• Oversee email inquiries from the public and direct them to the appropriate personnel or responding to them directly

Social Media Management

• Evaluate and develop content for the NTID PLAY Lab website

• Prepare weekly social media posts, including ALT text, sharing our research events, news and studies

Maintain currency with lab’s evolving research priorities

• Attend weekly lab meetings and take notes

• Read assigned relevant research publications and summarize for presentations to research team

• Search databases for relevant literature and curate this list for citations

Plan and execute bi-annual outreach events, often for families with children or college students

• planning and implementing educational activities for these events

• making reservations, ordering supplies, arranging swag materials for these outreach events

Assist with data collection

• Assist other lab members in conducting cognitive assessments of children in the lab

• Assist in collecting video-based data in the field

Other Administrative tasks as needed

• Occasionally aid with travel planning, ordering supplies, equipment purchases and budgeting

Department/College Description:

The newly-founded Perception, Language and Attention in Youth (PLAY) Lab's (https://www.rit.edu/ntid/playlab) aim is to understand how early sensory experiences shape our visual, cognitive, and language abilities later in life. We study how deaf and hearing children learn through visual sign language, with the goal of understanding human cognition and learning more broadly. We compare behaviors and abilities of deaf and hearing people -- across all ages -- who use signed or spoken language.

Job Summary:

The NTID Perception, Language & Attention in Youth (PLAY) Lab is seeking a Communications Coordinator for grant-funded research projects. The PLAY Lab’s aim is to study cognitive development in deaf and hearing children. Broadly, our goal is to understand how early sensory experiences shape our visual, cognitive, and language abilities later in life.

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will be engaged with community outreach, recruiting, and sharing of our promotional materials on social media. The goal is to recruit families with age-appropriate children to participate in cognitive-behavioral research and help plan community outreach events and public relations activities.
