Trillium Health NY Behavioral Health Medical Assistant/Patient Service Rep in Rochester, New York

Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, PSRs, perform a variety of clinical and non-clinical duties in support of patients, clients, behavioral health providers and other ancillary staff following established methods and procedures. Receive direction, support, and training from the Supervisor, PSRs relating to Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative responsibilities.

    Detail of Key Job Responsibility Areas

    1 . Patient Services Representative

  • Greet patients upon arrival and manage patient check-in/check-out process.

  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including coordinating referrals and follow-up visits.

  • Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and provide information on services offered.

  • Verify patient demographics, insurance information, process co-pays, and assist with billing inquiries.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

    1. Medical Assistant
  • Take and record patient vital signs, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight; record information into the EHR system.

  • Assist healthcare providers as needed with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.

  • Document relevant history and reason for visit.

  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean, stocked, and organized.

    1. Referral Management Behavioral Health
  • Coordinate and manage patient referrals to behavioral health services, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

  • Communicate with patients, providers, and behavioral health specialists to facilitate the referral process.

  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for behavioral health services.

  • Track referral status, follow up on pending referrals, and update the patient EHR with relevant information.

  • Provide patients with information about behavioral health resources, including contact details and appointment instructions.

  • Collaborate with behavioral health providers to ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions between services

    Qualifications

  • High school degree required. Associate’s degree strongly preferred. 1 – 3 years of experience working in a medical office or clinic required. Certified Medical Assistant certificate preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Good telephone manners and etiquette.

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and other staff.

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

  • Skill in documenting and maintaining patient care records.

  • Excellent computer and organizational skills.

  • This position has full access to sensitive and confidential medical records and HIV related information on all patients.

    Physical Requirements

    While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must stoop, bend and lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
