FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center is inviting applications for a faculty appointment commensurate with experience. We seek a highly motivated individual with proven research experience.

The candidate will lead the data acquisition, analysis, and manuscript development focused on measuring outcomes around surgical simulation leveraging physical models in trainings. Research will be translated from surgical simulation models into evidence based surgical skills improvement to ultimately improve surgical outcome.

The candidate must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degrees and have a demonstrated track-record of research accomplishments within the field of simulation and modeling. The candidate will have experience in teaching, strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The selected candidate will have access to surgeons in the laboratory setting, and the operating room to help foster collaboration between our surgeons and engineering team members.

The successful candidate will join a growing lab team focused on building, testing, and prototyping simulation models for research, training, educational and professional development needs. The department provides ample opportunities for collaborative research and access to excellent research facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments, and analyze the data.

  • Design and implement research protocols; adjusts protocols as needed.

  • Research and improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques. Implement this knowledge in the Division/Department.

  • Present research at laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and national meetings.

  • Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and grants.

  • Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars.

  • Attend relevant training sessions and ensure regulatory compliance with all policies and procedures.

  • Develop and design physical simulation models using 3-D computer aided design (CAD) software. This includes creation of anatomical models (kidney, bladder, prostate, etc.) and/or other surgical skills simulators.

  • Prototype new models, including review of literature for advances in biomedical field.

  • Adjust current protocols as needed. Ensure the integrity and security of all study data at all time.

  • Follow laboratory regulations and ensure compliance with institution requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in relevant fields including biomedical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering or related fields.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas mechanical design and prototyping (CAD, SolidWorks, 3D printing), data acquisition and analysis (Labview, PowerLab, Matlab), machine learning and data analytics (Python).

Pay Range

Pay Range: $235,000 - $425,000 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
