The Strong Admissions Desk Host in Rochester, New York

As one of the country’s largest history museums and one of the leading museums serving families, The Strong places the highest priority on providing outstanding service to its guests. Although guest service is the responsibility of each staff member, the admissions desk host is responsible for providing frontline exceptional visitor service and accurate information to visitors in accordance with established team and museum standards. This includes interacting with guests of all ages to anticipate and respond quickly and effectively to their questions and concerns, as well as to meet and exceed their expectations to provide an exceptional museum experience. This position works at the admissions desk as a greeter and cashier and uses the POS and scheduling systems to sell tickets and memberships and to check in groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a positive, welcoming experience for guests

  • Process and facilitate museum admission for 500 to 4,000+ museum guests and members per day

  • Operate POS register systems and process ticket transactions accurately and efficiently

  • Follow all loss prevention and cash handling policies and procedures.

  • Maintain an overall awareness and knowledge of the museum’s mission, history, programs, and special events as they affect museum visitation, and effectively communicate this information to guests to enhance the museum experience

  • Resolve guest concerns of a routine nature in a pleasant, timely manner; Refer more complicated guest recovery situations to a guest services supervisor

  • Additional hours may be required to accommodate high-volume periods such as school vacation weeks, holidays, and summertime

    Qualifications:

  • Open availability, or availability to work weekends (Friday-Sunday) at the very least

  • A high school diploma, GED, or CDOS; we will also consider current high school students 16+ years of age

  • Comfort and knowledge in cash handling procedures

  • Strong communication and listening skills

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, often noisy environment, with nearly constant guest interaction during busy times

    Starting salary: $15.50 /hour
