Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position advises undergraduate students in academic program planning; provides and obtains factual information with respect to registration in courses; assists students having academic difficulties; makes appropriate referrals. Additionally, the incumbent coordinates the CCAS Academic Action Team and serves as the Center’s coordinator of technology.

Specific Responsibilities:

Academic Advising:

  • Advises a caseload of assigned students in Arts and Sciences and provides information about program planning, academic resources, special academic opportunities, rules and policies, financial aid, and graduation requirements

  • Guides students on the development of four-year academic plans and connects students to academic and career development experiences and opportunities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, and co-curricular activities

  • Effectively communicates and explains academic policies and procedures to students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders.

  • Provides support to students in academic difficulty and serves as a primary resource for students placed on academic probation

  • Connects students with faculty to explore academic interests and opportunities

  • Maintains contact with faculty and departmental staff regarding advising programs and consults on individual cases as required

  • Meets with students through individual appointments, group advising, both in person and on a remote basis

  • Assists with outreach to students who are on a Leave of Absence

  • Collaborates on campus-wide advising initiatives

  • Attends committee meetings based on interest and department needs

  • Guides students in preparation of petitions, proposals, and appeals; refers students to faculty or other offices for specialized help

Academic Action team:

  • Makes recommendations to CCAS Director regarding updates to academic probation policies and communications.

  • Serves as the coordinator for the Academic Action Team which is responsible for reviewing student progress at the end of each semester.

  • Provides appriopate probation data to partner offices at the end of each semester

  • Partner with Associate Director to deliver Academic Action Training for College Advisors and the Advising community

  • Partners with the Registrar’s Office on data analysis

  • Updates Academic Action procedures annually

Technology:

  • Serves as the Center’s liaison to the UR Student Workday team for reporting and technology needs,

  • Oversees advisor assignments for new and continuing students

  • Oversees the Center’s online schedule software

  • Works closely with the Registrar’s Office to coordinate student communications via OnBase and UR Student

  • Partners with the Associate Director to provides OnBase and UR Student Training for College Advisors and the Advising Community

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Master’s degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Two years related experience or an equivalent combination working with students in a higher education setting required.

  • Knowledge of systems (i.e., student information systems or comparable software) required.

  • Experience with public speaking and presentations to diverse audience required.

  • Excellent organization, time-management, writing skills and ability to build strong relationships with students is required.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, a desire to coach and advocate for students, and a passion for assisting students as they formulate their educational and personal goals preferred.

  • Demonstrated success/experience and ability to work with diverse populations preferred.

  • Desirable skills include familiarity with , Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.36 - $29.90 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
