DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: To provide each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Evaluates, selects, requisitions, and processes new library materials.
Provides guidance to students in the selection of library materials.
Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging and managing all library materials. Instructs teachers and students on use of the system. Sets policy and procedures for automated management of library materials.
Administers the library budget.
Prepares an annual inventory.
Collaborates with teachers in creating and facilitating classroom assignments and instruction that utilizes library resources and develops information literacy.
Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
Utilizes district-created materials for library instruction, including the RCSDLibrary Scope and Sequence.
Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of all reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Presents and discusses materials with a small group of students or a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher or in conjunction with the teacher.
Collaborates with the building computer coordinator, teachers and administrators in identifying needs and integrating library technologies into educational and information processes.
Collaborates with all staff to identify and use library information technologies and software required to meet patrons’ information needs and support the curriculum.
Collaborates with the building’s learning community to plan, design, implement and assess an effective, student-centered technology plan that incorporates library resources.
Participates in curriculum planning meetings.
Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students.
Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities, technology and materials.
Arranges frequently changing displays and exhibits likely to interest the library's patrons.
Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers and students.
Directs activities of support personnel assigned to the library.
Manages and coordinates the operations of the building’s automated textbook system.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to current schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
