Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic seeks three additional physician assistants or nurse practitioners who have pediatric experience to work in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in an inpatient role. These Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) will provide inpatient care for children with hematologic or oncologic disorders who are hospitalized. The role requires obtaining comprehensive physical assessment and evaluation, establishing treatment goals, coordination of procedures and diagnostic testing, interpretation of testing, trouble-shooting treatment related side effects, education of families, and communication with the interdisciplinary team. The APPs will perform lumbar punctures (training provided if no experience). The APPs will work closely with the physicians in the division, other allied health staff on the team, and fellow and resident learners. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology division is a group practice currently consisting of 11 physicians, 6 APPs, 10 ambulatory care nurses and 2 pharmacists. There will be opportunities to participate in clinical research as well as in education of patients and medical professionals.

Qualifications

Minimum of a Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license and certification (or eligible to be certified) as a PNP or FNP.

Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

BLS certification required within 3 months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.

DEA registration required or eligible for DEA registration.

Pediatric experience is required. Prefer candidate with experience in hematology or oncology.

Schedule Details

Full Time. Inpatient shifts are typically 13 hour days, scheduled Monday through Sunday. Shift length may vary depending on the needs of the practice.

Weekend Schedule

Weekend coverage will be needed. No holidays.
