Diesel Mechanic Apprentice

PeopleReady of  Rochester,MN is now hiring Diesel Mechanic Apprentices! Seeking a candidate who is currently taking diesel mechanic classes for is going to start school. The candidate will watch and follow his/her mentor, retrieve tools, parts and learn about safety and the day to day process. Facility is open M-F 6am-9pm. If your classes are in the am, you can work in the evening, or in the morning depending on class schedule. This will be a great way to see if the job is for you, and to prove yourself to Waste Management. As a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice, you will do a variety of work in different industries.

Pay Rate:

The pay rate for this job is $20 / Hour

What you'll be doing as a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice:

  • Learn what it takes to keep equipment running in a safe manner. Helping mentors with the responsibilities, how to work with the tools.

  • Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance. Perform inspections, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicle and equipment.

  • Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes and to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software programs associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

  • Performs service calls for emergency break downs. Class B CDL preferred or ability to obtain in the future.

  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards. 

  • Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair trucks on the road. Usually well-lit and ventilated.

  • Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require safety recautions.

Available shifts:

Shift timings - 1st Shift (Day) , 2nd Shift (Evening)
