POSITION SUMMARY:
The Refining Project Management (RPM) Team within Asset Development is seeking an experienced Project Controls Scheduling & Estimating Manager to lead the Project Controls Subject Matter Experts in scheduling and estimating governance and enhancement efforts. This position will report to the Project Controls & Systems Manager and is responsible for in providing leadership and guidance to estimating and scheduling SMEs, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth, while focusing on strategic leadership & governance to support development of corporate guidelines for cost and schedule risk management, ensuring alignment with company objectives, as well as enforcing standardized estimating and scheduling processes, tools, and best practices across all projects. The role will advance MPMP knowledge base with regards to project controls deliverables and fundamentals.
Expectations include effectively supervising a staff of subject matter experts, interacting with project controls leaders across Refining, championing project controls training and improvement initiatives, and providing expertise in the evaluation, development, and rollout of project controls tools and software applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership and guidance to estimating and scheduling SMEs, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
Strong Strategic Leadership & Governance to support the development of corporate guidelines for cost and schedule risk management, ensuring alignment with company objectives, as well as enforcing standardized estimating and scheduling processes, tools, and best practices across all projects.
The individual will ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of cost estimates and schedules across projects and at all divisions.
Facilitate coordination between estimating, scheduling, and other project control functions to ensure seamless integration.
Engage with project teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders to provide data-driven insights for decision-making.
Drive lessons learned initiatives, leveraging historical data to refine future estimates and schedules.
Evaluate, implement, and maintain estimating and scheduling software tools to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
Ensure users are trained on software applications and oversee modifications or integrations to align with project and business needs and interact with IT and external software development companies to implement, modify, and optimize estimating and scheduling tools to meet business needs.
Leverages project management software and tools to streamline project controls processes and enhance efficiency. Identifies and implements project controls software and tools that can enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the organization. Ensures that teams are trained in using these tools. Revisions are communicated to the Community to Practice users.
Provides training and support to project controls teams and project managers to ensure they understand and adhere to corporate project controls standards. This may involve conducting workshops, webinars, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Oversee efficient management of systems Database for administrative management, and data structure efficiency
Lead a Scheduling Community of Practice group that includes specialists from all Marathon Petroleum refineries.
Focus on Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement by tracking KPIs, analyzing historical data, and implementing lessons learned to enhance estimating and scheduling efficiency.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field is preferred.
Minimum of 13 years of experience in project management, project controls, and execution with focus on large scale projects is required.
Minimum 3 years supervisory and leadership experience is required.
Computer Proficiencies: Advanced skills and knowledge with Microsoft Suite, SAP, Track, RCR, Analytics, STOx, Maxavera, XENA and Primavera (P6).
Must be a critical thinker with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Frequent travel will be required (estimated 30 - 35%).
