POSITION SUMMARY:

Marathon Petroleum Company’s Illinois Refining Division (IRD) is seeking a Maintenance Foreman – Garage to oversee our diverse fleet and equipment operations. This role is pivotal in monitoring and managing the maintenance of vehicles, cranes, and construction equipment, ensuring cost-effective strategies are implemented . The successful candidate will engage in proactive interactions with outside suppliers, environmental groups, and state regulatory bodies to uphold our commitment to company/state compliance. A key asp ect of this role is fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement among team members.

Relocation is approved for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold a high standard of safety by maintaining a visible and active presence in the field, actively promot ing, and participating in safety audits and near-miss/incident investigations to resolve issues promptly.

  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document Preventative Maintenance and Repairs of refinery mobile equipment such as fleet vehicles, cranes, and construction equipment.

  • Maintain monthly shop budget and develop out - year budget s for mobile equipment replacements.

  • Maintain current, accurate , and complete records for assigned area.

  • Lead the MPC Garage team in executing routine maintenance and project-related tasks, emphasizing efficiency and environmental compliance.

  • Clearly communicate job expectations and performance standards to the team, ensuring a shared understanding of work objectives .

  • A pply f air and consistent application of policies and procedures.

  • Ensure work orders are satisfactorily completed and properly closed out.

  • Communicate daily activities related to manpower , accomplishments, and challenges to management.

  • Collaborate with maintenance, environmental, operations, and other refinery departments to coordinate scheduled work and maintain compliance with environmental and operational standards.

  • Monitor and appraise progress to ensure productivity, work quality and schedule adherence .

  • Oversee completion of equipment inspections by qualified equipment operators.

  • Support embedded contractors to manage work scope more efficiently.

  • Develop and refine operational procedures, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Maintenance Action Plans (MAPs), Best Management Practices (BMPs), and Safety Procedures (SPs).

  • Ensure assigned craft personnel receive appropriate training and maintain necessary qualifications and certifications for their job assignment.

  • I dentify and address appropriate training needs , contributing to the development of comprehensive training programs for mobile equipment operator s.

  • Perform quality assurance activities during design, manufacturing, and installation of new equipment and piping regarding access, sizing, and other limitations regarding mobile equipment.

  • Engage with project engineering and execution teams, offering expertise on mobile equipment support for various initiatives.

  • Lead start - of - shift meetings and contribute to field safety audits .

  • Assist the turnaround group with manpower /equipment planning and budgeting.

  • Stay informed about industry codes/standards and MPC specifications relevant to cranes and mobile equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with all required Department of Transportati on ( DOT ) regulations.

  • Manage interactions with contract and third-party vendors effectively.

  • Oversee the permitting process for lifting and hoisting operations, ensuring all activities comply with SP-13 guidelines ( critical lifts, ALKY Lift analysis, permitted lifts, personnel lifts, electrical lifts ), and participate in What-if drills and pre-lift meetings.

  • Manage the allocation and tracking of refinery rental equipment, optimizing utilization and cost-efficiency.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Valid Driver's License required.

  • Availability for a Monday-Thursday 10-hour shift schedule, on-call weekend rotations, and support for Turnaround and shutdowns as required .

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • 5 + years of field experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial setting preferred.

  • Valid NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) Qualification, or NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) for operating large and small hydraulic cranes preferred.

  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.

  • Qualifications for crane and rigging inspection preferred.

  • Experience with SAP and Track software systems preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote) and the ability to leverage these tools for effective communication and coordination.

  • Strong coordination skills, demonstrated through successful interdisciplinary project management (crafts, operations, environm ental, i nspection, engineering).

  • Leadership abilities to conduct and facilitate meetings with various stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both frontline workers and leadership.
