This position will be required to perform emergency, overtime and call-in work as required to repair and maintain campus facilities in excess of the normal shift.

Position Summary
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and life safety and electrical control systems to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
This position will function as a member of Facilities Management providing customer service and relations to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls community. Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance of their job functions and to communicate openly with supervisors, co-workers, other departments, students and University employees.
This position involves exercising individual initiative, judgement and creativity; applying cumulative, specialized and practical knowledge under minimal direction and supervision. The position frequently develops recommendations and estimates for installation of wiring and equipment to support campus electrical system projects.
Responsibilities
Interprets blueprints and drawings and completes electrical calculations to assess and determine specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs
Completes skilled electrical installations and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes in various work environments
Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
Repair all building lighting and power systems less than 600V, including light fixtures (ballasts, drivers, sockets, and lamps), lighting control devices, power receptacles, circuit breakers, panels, transformers, disconnect switches, equipment, variable frequency drives, motors, etc.
Install, repair, replace and maintain exterior lighting, including pole lights and wall-mounted lights.
Troubleshoot, repair and/or replace motors (voltage from 120 volts to 480 volts) and motor components (e.g. starters, controls, pressure switches, thermostat control circuitry).
Install and troubleshoot variable frequency drives connected to motors, chillers and pumps.
Assist other maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems, food service & laundry equipment and other building electrical and electronic components.
Remove existing electrical components (e.g. electrical panels, switches, lights, outlets, and conduit) to facilitate remodeling and updates to buildings.
Install new electrical circuitry (e.g. panel boards, transformers, circuit breakers, conduit, wire, switches, fuses, receptacles, lighting fixtures, motor starters) for new and remodel projects following the National Electrical Code ,State of Wisconsin Building Codes, and State Facilities Specifications.
Assist in the repair and maintenance of fire alarm system components, including smoke and heat detectors, speaker/strobe lights, replacement of batteries, circuit boards, and panel components such as main power supplies.
Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of “special” electrical systems (e.g. fire alarm, telecom, clock, digital controls, card access, ADA automatic door controls, HVAC controls and emergency alarm systems).
Inspect, clean and maintain the medium voltage campus main switchgear, pad-mount loop switches, building main disconnect switches, building primary transformers, and cable bus taps in manholes. Replace fuses in 4,160 volt building main disconnect switches.
Remove, clean and reinstall medium voltage breakers in 4160 volt system main switchgear.
Maintain schematic record plans, diagrams, supporting documentation, operator manuals, and records for all installations.
Assist other maintenance staff.
Accurately complete work orders and related paperwork in a timely manner.
Properly store, use, and dispose of hazardous materials.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
Must have a current Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician license
Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the electrician trade.
Thorough knowledge and experience with the National Electrical Code, Wisconsin State Electrical Code, Wisconsin Division of Safety & Professional Services ( DSPS ) building Codes.
Significant knowledge and experience complying with all safety laws and regulations (e.g. Electrical Arc Flash Compliance, Lockout-Tagout, OSHA , WI Department of Safety & Professional Services).
Thorough knowledge of major types of electrical installations, common and unusual breakdowns, and standard repair procedures.
Ability to read the English language sufficiently to read and understand construction documents (i.e., blueprints), requisitions, work orders, hazardous substance warnings, installation and repair manuals, and equipment operating instructions.
Ability to orally communicate effectively with others fluently using the English language, in person or over the telephone, with or without the use of auxiliary aids, in order to convey information.
Ability to enter, exit, and perform duties in confined spaces in order to correct problems.
Ability to perform duties within temperature ranges so as to do necessary outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter.
Ability to work in special clothing and common protective safety attire.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to perform physical labor including heavy lifting (50 pounds), bending, stooping, twisting and other motions; ability to work with arms above head for extended periods of time.
Ability to work from step ladders up to 14 feet, extension ladders up to 24 feet, personnel lifts, and a bucket truck.
Ability to use knowledge and experience to independently provide recommended scope for projects and repairs and to provide basic estimates on materials and labor costs.
Successful completion of a post-offer employment test.
Hold and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License to drive University vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with safety and maintenance of medium voltage power distribution systems is desirable; including knowledge and experience to identify, inspect and perform maintenance to medium voltage cable connections; perform maintenance on the switchgear back-up batteries; properly use all recommended personal protective equipment.
