The School
A dynamic academic unit dedicated to preparing professionals to assist people with disabilities to live full lives, the School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling currently has 23 full-time (tenured, tenure track and non-tenured) faculty teaching in the program and over 400 students enrolled. Located in a modern facility (Edinburg Health Affairs Building West) featuring dedicated classrooms and a state-of-the-art research lab and counseling center, the school prides itself on preparing students to enter a rewarding field of helping others to achieve their own goals of independence and productivity.
Accreditation
The B.S. in Rehabilitation Services is accredited November 2021- December 2028 by the Committee on Rehabilitation Accreditation (CoRA) under the auspices of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs ( CAAHEP ).
The B.S. in Addiction Studies is accredited June 2023-December 2029 by the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission ( NASAC ).
The M.S. in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling is accredited July 2018-October 2027 by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP ).
The Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling (Counselor Education and Supervision) is accredited January 2016- October 2027 by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP ).

Minimum Qualifications
Assistant Professor:
Earned Doctoral Degree or ABD in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or closely related field from a CACREP accredited program. For those who have not graduated from a CACREP accredited program, it is expected to have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year before July 1st, 2013.
Associate Professor:
Earned Doctoral Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or closely related field from a CACREP accredited program. For those who have not graduated from a CACREP accredited program, it is expected to have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year before July 1st, 2013.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor
CRC / LPC or CRC / LPC eligible. The ideal candidate should be:
a) Certified Rehabilitation Counselor ( CRC ) or eligible to become certified and
b) licensed or license eligible as either LPC license or equivalent state license within a year.
Associate Professor
CRC / LPC or CRC / LPC eligible. The ideal candidate should be:
a) Certified Rehabilitation Counselor ( CRC ) or eligible to become certified and
b) licensed or license eligible as either Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ) or equivalent state license within a year or
c) licensed or licensed eligible as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor ( LCDC ) or equivalent within a year
Preferred Qualifications
Assistant Professor
Excellence in scholarly work demonstrated in terms of refereed publications.
Ability to secure external fundings demonstrated in terms of successful grantsmanship.
Graduate and Undergraduate level teaching experiences and clinical experience with diverse disability population in the field of rehabilitation counseling.
Excellence in leadership and advocacy relevant to rehabilitation counseling.
Clinical and teaching experience in counseling and counseling skill development including online/virtual formats.
Excellence in quantitative and qualitative methodology and statistical analyses used in the field of counseling.
Excellence will be evaluated relative to the ranking the candidate is applying for.
Associate Professor
Earned Doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or closely related field from a CACREP Accredited program.
Excellence in scholarly work demonstrated in terms of refereed publications.
A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in the field of mental health, rehabilitation counseling, addictions counseling, or a closely related field with at least 2 years in direct client service.
Evidence of the ability to conduct research and develop and implement a research agenda that includes scholarly activities such as authoring peer-reviewed publications and grant writing.
Ability to secure external fundings demonstrated in terms of successful grantsmanship.
Graduate level teaching experiences and clinical experience with diverse disability population in the field of rehabilitation counseling.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
