Scope of Job
Provide visionary and energetic leadership for the UTRGV Honors College. Promote intellectually enriching and challenging experiences for academically talented and motivated students through academics, extracurricular activities, civic engagement, leadership training, and integrity. Expose UTRGV students to local, regional, national, and international education and experiential and service learning. Set ambitious goals and define strategic and operational direction for the Honors College to ensure student success and the recognition of the College across campus and the community.
Description of Duties
In the consultation of the Provost and fellow deans, develop and implement a strategic plan for undergraduate honors education that will encompass the rich variety of interests of students and faculty across colleges, schools, disciplines, and majors.
Develop wide-ranging opportunities that expand the perspectives of Honors College students and strengthen and enhance these experiences for honors students as critical factors in their success. With the Provost, collaborate with Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning, University College, University Libraries, and other resources on and off campus.
Design, implement, supervise, and evaluate innovative co- and extra-curricular activities that enrich the academic and personal lives of Honors College students.
Oversee special programs, and create new ones, to enhance undergraduate education, such as the Archer Fellowship program.
Ensure that student success and recognition of their success is at the core of the College’s mission and goals. Advocate for innovative undergraduate education, working in collaboration with deans, chairs, faculty, and departments to enhance and strengthen opportunities for academically talented undergraduate students.
Form and lead an Advisory Council of faculty, students, and other stakeholders from the community and the university.
Direct and coordinate services for the honors program, faculty, and students with respect to admission, recruitment, progression, and graduation.
Manage College budget including, reviewing, allocating, and authorizing expenditures necessary to support the initiatives. Appoint academic and administrative staff that support the vision and mission of the Honors College.
Develop community outreach activities to provide experiential and service-learning opportunities for students, including lectures, activities, symposia, regional and national conferences. Wherever possible, include Honors College students’ families.
Coordinate with the Vice Provost for International Study Programs to provide international education opportunities for students.
Coordinate with the Vice Provost for Bilingual Integration to extend opportunities for bilingual educational experiences.
Seek external funding to support the educational and research initiatives of Honors College.
Represent the College to internal and external stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university, consistent with the requirements necessary for a tenured faculty appointment.

None.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of higher education experience in undergraduate education, teaching, advising, and mentoring of undergraduate students, including three (3) years administrative experience in higher education.
Must be currently employed as a tenured faculty member at UTRGV (Associate or Full Professor).
Preferred Experience
Experience sponsoring and leading student enrichment programs with extra and co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and build camaraderie and a sense of identity and belonging.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment across the Rio Grande Valley.

Broad understanding of higher education issues, particularly those affecting academic programs for academically talented undergraduate students. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Commitment to a highly collaborative approach to program development and implementation.
