About the College of Education and P-16 Integration
TheCollege of Education and P-16 Integrationoffers teacher preparation at the undergraduate level and, master’s programs in Counseling, School Psychology, Special Education, Educational Technology, Educational Leadership, Early Childhood, Reading and Literacy, Bilingual Education, Curriculum and Instruction with specializations in Mathematics Education and elementary Math and Science, and Teacher Leadership.
Two Ed.Ds are also offered in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction with several specialization areas, including Mathematics Education. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency ( TEA ), by the Counsel for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP ), and by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation ( CAEP ).

Department Background
The Department of Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with other departments, plays a central role in preparing teachers, bilingual educators, and special educators in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, the Southwest, and beyond. We support a full range of EC-6 (Early Childhood through 6th grade) programs including undergraduate programs leading to teacher certification in Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language, and Special Education, and we also teach the curriculum core of UTRGV’s EC-3 (Childhood Education through 3rd grade) program. We also host eight graduate programs and certificates including an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction.
The Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education is a full-time tenure-track position in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
The position is focused on Teaching and Learning’s new Master of Arts in Teaching degree, a master’s degree that leads to both EC-6 and secondary Texas teaching licenses. In addition, the Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education will support the teaching and research in all levels (i.e., undergraduate, Master, and Doctoral).
Other responsibilities may include evaluating in-service and pre-service teachers’ work, developing graduate courses, advising and mentoring graduate students, serving on dissertation committees, conducting and collaborating on research projects, writing grant proposals and journal articles, publishing in peer-reviewed Q1/Q2 journals, presenting at national/international conferences, fostering partnerships with school districts, contributing to program development and assessment, supporting student recruitment and retention initiatives at the department and college level, and more.

Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in curriculum and instruction with focus in mathematics education, or related field like STEM Education with a concentration in mathematics. ABD with expected graduation by Summer 2025 are welcome to apply.
Evidence of or potential for successful teaching experience at the college/university level
Demonstrated potential for developing a successful research agenda in mathematics education.
Evidence of or potential for scholarly activity/publications in mathematics education or related fields.
Potential for securing external funding
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
General background or experience in curriculum and instruction or curriculum studies with a specific focus on math education or math pedagogy.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of EC-12 teaching experience in mathematics.
Experience/leadership in mathematics teacher education.
Experience teaching mathematics education courses to pre-service and/or in-service teachers.
Experience teaching multilingual and first-generation student populations.
Knowledge of various teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online)
Experience with technology integration in research and teaching.
Evidence of knowledge of current trends and issues in mathematics education, including the impacts of sociopolitical contexts on mathematics classrooms.
Emergent research agenda and grant activity in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in mathematics education
Expertise in mathematics education research methodologies.
Participation in professional organizations (e.g., PMENA , NCTM , AMTE , RELME )
Ability to teach EC-6, middle grades, and secondary mathematics education courses.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
