Job Summary and Qualifications

1. Observes monitors and documents rhythms, strips, documents patient movement and interactions. Communicates and redirects patients as needed.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Charts rhythm strips routinely and as needed and provides rhythm strips for RN documentation.

  2. Recognizes rhythm accurately.

  3. Notes changes in patient rhythm and recognizes life threatening dysrhythmias and responds accordingly.

  4. Documents trends as ordered.

  5. Documents appropriately on shift report sheet.

  6. Verifies alarms promptly and accurately.

  7. Utilizes appropriate alarms and verifies settings to provide optimal patient monitoring.

  8. Notes changes in patient movement and recognizes safety risks and responds accordingly.

  9. Documents all patient interactions and communications.

  10. Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patient and visitors.

2. Maintains telemetry equipment, monitors and supplies.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Communicates with RN to trouble shoot reception issues and proper placement of leads.

  2. Communicates with RN when batteries are low and need to be replaced.

  3. Notifies Biomed Department of current or potential problems as needed.

  4. Assures adequate paper supplies per shift.

  5. Notifies IT Department of current or potential problems as needed.

3. Effectively communicates with all team members including care providers, families and patients.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Provides thorough shift change report.

  2. Notifies RN of any rhythm changes when they occur.

  3. Keeps up with patients transferring to and from unit and leaving for procedures to provide constant observation while on the monitor.

  4. Notifies care providers of any potential falls risks immediately as they occur.

4. Proficient in computer and smart phone usage.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Understands mouse and keyboard usage.

  2. Program launching, closing, minimizing.

  3. Knowledge of mobile communication systems (smartphones and VOIP phone systems).

5. Serves as preceptor for new staff.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Follows orientation plan for new monitor technicians.

  2. Serves as resource for interdisciplinary team as needed.

  3. Updates knowledge of techniques, procedures and regulations annually and as needed.

The following accountabilities may be reassigned:

What qualifications you will need:

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Required: High school graduate or GED Equivalent required.

Preferred: Completion of basic EKG/Arrhythmia course and successful completion of Monitor Tech examination.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Working knowledge of basic rhythms and arrhythmias.

Preferred: Previous experience as CMT/Cardiac Tech or Monitor Tech
