Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is currently seeking a Corrosion Engineer to join our team! This position will design, prepare reports, review and assess data, write specifications, review submittals, cathodic protection surveys, and direct cathodic protection installations. This is a full-time position, 20% out-of-state travel is expected. Current projects are in Texas, Illinois, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia. You will work and report from home. Overnight travel may be reduced depending on the state you reside in.

What will you be doing?

This position will be a key member of the Cathodic Protection/Corrosion team. Duties include:

  • Assess, design and commission galvanic cathodic protection systems

  • Assess, design and commission impressed current systems, rectifiers, bonds, test stations, anode ground beds and coupons

  • Review and design mitigation for stray currents

  • Assess, design and mitigate transit system corrosion

  • Perform calculations

  • Develop testing plans

  • Direct field repairs

  • Write and review specifications

  • Review and approve submittals

  • QAQC

  • Lead client meetings

  • Develop and assess soil corrosivity based on data

  • Review and approve Track to Earth and insulated rail joint testing data

  • Perform site investigations and testing in high-voltage substations and along electrified railroads

  • Experience with Transit Systems

  • Experience with water pipelines and tanks is preferred

  • Possession of a valid TWIC card is preferred

    What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?

This position will require the following skillsets and experience:

  • Certification, diploma or degree in corrosion technology or related field.

  • 10 or more years of related experience with cathodic protection systems.

  • AMPP/NACE certified Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP Level 4 Certification) or Equivalent Certification.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated, independent, innovative, responsible and a phenomenal teammate with a strong work ethic and initiative.

  • Role requires a valid driver's license, which will be verified with a motor vehicle check prior to hire.

  • Professional engineering (PE) license in Illinois (Preferred)

    Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects up to 40 pounds), bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, pulling hand over hand, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone/video calls.
