JOB SUMMARY: Provides supervision of staff and juveniles in the Juvenile Detention Center to ensure all policies and procedures are followed and to ensure safety of all occupants. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the overall operation of the building for the assigned shift. Monitors behavior of Juveniles while in custody and provides care, control and safe environment for clients. Supervises detention officers during shifts to ensure they operate within established standards. Communicates with parents, Director, law enforcement agencies and other employees regarding questions and status of Juvenile while in detention. Conducts detailed investigation of serious incidents and provides thorough investigation report enabling administrators to make an informed decision. Responsible for security of grounds and facilities during night shifts and on weekends. Assists with training and orientation of new staff, interns and volunteers. Performs intake evaluation of Juvenile and determines if further psychological evaluation is necessary; assists with release of Juvenile. Dispenses and records prescribed medication and notifies nurse of any medical problems to ensure Juveniles medical needs are met. Enters information into computer database during shift; prepares monthly statistical report; writes reports and investigations on major incidents within facility. Knowledge of procedures and standards of Texas Administrative Code Chapter 343 - Secure Juvenile Pre-Adjudication Detention and Post-Adjudication Correctional Facilities. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED Minimum age 21 required/ company policy

Three (3) years job related experience in residential supervision. Good verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials. Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Certified Juvenile Detention Officer, CPR/First Aid Certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification. Requires shift work and weekends.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $34.73 - $52.10 hourly based upon qualifications
