JOB SUMMARY: The Fort Bend County District Attorneys Office is seeking an experienced felony prosecutor, effective immediately. Applicants should be Texas licensed attorneys in good standing with at least three years of job-related experience and should possess a thorough working knowledge of criminal prosecution and court procedure. The ideal candidate has extensive felony trial experience. The position handles the investigation and prosecution of criminal conduct categorized at the felony grade in the district courts. An applicant could be assigned to the general felony trial division, or a specialized division based on qualifications and experience. Felony prosecutors are expected to review, investigate, prosecute and present cases to judges and grand juries, and conduct hearings and jury trials of criminal cases. Also counsel and train local law enforcement, prepare arrest and search warrants, research legal issues, negotiate plea bargains, coordinate victims and witnesses and prepare subpoenas, and are responsible for discovery production. Strong case evaluation, writing, and communication skills will be required as well as proficiency to provide education to grand jurors, law enforcement, and community members.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews, investigates, prosecutes and presents cases to judges and grand jury; represents crime victims at court proceedings; conducts trials of criminal and juvenile cases. Represents District Attorneys office and negotiates plea bargains, motions hearings, and bond reductions in criminal and juvenile cases. Provides counsel to law enforcement agencies on investigations, including preparing arrest and search warrants, and reviews all complaints for contested criminal and juvenile cases. Research legal issues to prepare for motions and trial; supervises and coordinates the discovery process. Consults with and provides legal advice to appropriate County departments; responds to public inquiries to resolve questions and/or refers to proper person. Liaisons with law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, providing training as required. Meets and assists with victims, witnesses, and other outside agencies and prepares subpoenas for the same, coordinates trial witnesses and evidence with staff and investigative division. Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties; assigns, plans and reviews work of other employees. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS: Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. Three years job related experience. Computer, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials. Trial advocacy, legal research and library skills. Knowledge of Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Family Code and Rules of Evidence. Licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas.

SALARY RANGE: Starting salary range begins at $101,504.00 annually. Bar dues and CLE are paid by the office. Relevant Texas Board of Legal Specialization certifications allow for additional compensation of $5,000 annually.
