Overview
Office of Collaboration and Commercialization (OCC) is PNNL’s impact arm. OCC’s team of experienced executives, program managers, collaborators, and product development champions have a proven record of bringing PNNL’s research to the marketplace, creating impact from innovation, and delivering on the technology transfer mission to boost U.S. global competitiveness and national security. Through researcher education and outreach, the team identifies and protects the intellectual property, innovations, and inventions developed at PNNL. Through collaborative partnerships and programs, the team accelerates research outcomes, fosters entrepreneurship, and delivers a return on taxpayer funding in the form of taxes and re-investable royalty returns. The team works to mitigate and overcome barriers to entry in the market and to smooth pathways and processes to commercialization—doing so accelerates PNNL technology transfer from the lab to the marketplace.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a financial coordinator to support the increasing number of projects that are directly tied to the technology transfer mission of the lab.
The Financial Coordinator contributes to PNNL through financial support of project management. Jobs on this hierarchy require specific expertise and knowledge of standards, practices, and procedures typically acquired through specialized training and/or work-related experience and/or formal technical education. Jobs in this job family are individual contributors and are responsible for the end results achieved through own work.
Additional responsibilities included but are not limited to:
Tracking and analyzing monthly costs and commitments for a grouping of projects; including developing and maintaining estimates to complete and financial spreadsheets with current and accurate data, preparing and submitting accruals.
Assist in preparing monthly financial reports in accordance with program guidance.
Soliciting and compiling input from Principal Investigators and Project Managers for monthly and quarterly reports.
Assisting in soliciting and compiling project records for retention and input to program share.
Advise program managers, project managers, task managers, and mid-career project coordinator in working through the PNNL project lifecycle processes (from proposal to closeout); as well as initiate and manage subcontracts through acquisition lifecycle.
Identify project management improvement and efficiency opportunities and implement processes including budget, funding, schedule, and deliverables management.
Assisting with proposal calls by generating project cost estimates, coordinating proposal development efforts, and working with the Project Management Office to ensure timely submittal of proposals.
Provide mentorship of other Project Coordinators on the program and oversight of tasks and reporting.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
MS/MA or higher -OR-
BS/BA and 2 years of relevant financial experience -OR-
AA and 12 years of relevant financial experience -OR-
HS/GED and 14 years of relevant financial experience.
Qualifying experience in financial support of budget management, financial analysis, and tracking & reporting of cost and spend may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work on complex problems and provide solutions.
Identify improvement/efficiency opportunities.
Manages proposal calls.
Identifies potential issues impacting project execution and provides viable solutions.
Uses concepts and knowledge of business systems to resolve complex issues in creative and effective way.
Exercises judgement in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to solve problems.
Works independently with increasing responsibility, conducts mentoring for staff.
Excellent communication skills required.
Expert knowledge and expertise in PNNL project lifecycle processes and business systems including but not limited to Project Portfolio Manager, Proposal Pricing System, Project Management Reports, Work Authorization Lifecycle System, and Electronic Prep and Risk.
Proficient in using MS Excel.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
