State of Utah - Jobs Survey Technician in RICHFIELD, Utah
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join Region Four in Richfield, Utah, as a Survey Technician (Engineering Technician IV). Principal Duties The Survey Technician IV works under the direction of a Registered Land Surveyor to locate and determine property lines, elevations, grades, benchmarks, boundaries for transportation projects, and preservation of UDOT lands. Duties include:
- Performing topographic survey needs for proposed projects with advanced survey instruments such as GPS, EDM, Lidar, UAS, etc.
- Setting horizontal and vertical control throughout the selected corridors and reference to state control monuments.
- Transferring field data from GPS to DGN file.
- Performing a quality control survey.
- Resolving survey questions, disputes, or conflicts with stakeholders.
- Preparing CADD files of surveyed data for use in engineering design and/or property descriptions.
- Performing field staking of various project elements as needed throughout design, advertising, and construction phase of projects.
- Preparing engineering and design plans using computer assisted engineering and design software.
- Preparing legal descriptions, Right-of-Way plans and other supporting documents.
- Advising engineers of technical problems with proposed solutions.
- Researching survey data from previous survey and county records.
- Negotiating schedule for survey projects with customers.
- Receiving and responding to public inquiries regarding state Right-of-Ways.
Minimum Qualifications The qualified candidate for this position is someone who:
- Has 4 years' experience in Design/Right-of-Way/Survey or related experience; AND
- Has completed TEP, NICET level IV, M3 level IV or T3 level IV certification; OR
- A combination of directly related education and/or experience.
- Has a valid driver's license.
- Has good communication skills (oral and written).
- Is self-motivated and works with little supervision.
- Is proficient in the use of a computer and the standard software/applications.
- Has office organization and filing skills.
- Provides responsive customer service.
Preferences Preference may be given to applicants who have one or more of the following:
- Right-of-Way, County Property Abstract Research, MicroStation and GPS experience.
- GIS experience.
- Utah State Professional Land Surveyor License.
Hiring official may identify additional job related skills and requirements as preferences in making the hiring decision. This position may be filled as an Engineering Technician III position (salary range is $24.45-$42.09) with applicants who do not meet the Engineer Technician IV qualifications listed. To qualify for the Engineering Technician III level you must have:
- At least 2 years' experience in Design/Right-of-Way/Survey or related experience AND
- C ompleted TEP Phase III, NICET level III, M3 level III or T3 level III certification OR
- A combination of directly related education and/or experience.
Supplemental Information Here is some additional information of which you should be aware:
- Travel maybe required to various project locations throughout the region.
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; and bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
- Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., working in heavy traffic, extreme outdoor weather conditions, etc.
- Night working may be required to avoid working in peak traffic conditions.
- Employee may be reassigned to a different locatio as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
