Overview
As part of the Celestica Global Automation team, you are a seasoned Engineer that identifies assembly optimization opportunities and conceptualizes conversion of manual processes and steps to optimized automated solutions. As an Engineer, you bring hands on experience in machinery design concepts, robotic, PLC and vision programming, safety and global standards. With this knowledge you are comfortable working in a team environment to create the requirements and specifications in order to build world-class equipment.

As an Sr Engineer, you bring hands on experience in machinery design concepts, robotic, PLC and vision programming, safety and global standards. With this knowledge you are comfortable working in a team environment to create the requirements and specifications in order to build world-class equipment.
In this role, you will report to the Sr Mgr of Eng/Prgm Mgmt. This position is a hybrid role, based in Dallas, Texas, USA.
Detailed Description
Create automation solutions that meet Celestica’s universal and site specific automation goals.
Provide technical guidance in the definition of flexible and scalable automation solutions.
Develop tools and methods to facilitate automation efforts.
Interface with customers and internal and external design teams to provide site specific automation needs.
Primary Duties:
Analyze all aspects of manufacturing process and determine need for automation.
Prepare Request For Proposal/Quote for automation and support all phases of the Project Life Cycle.
Responsible for the training of regional and site engineering resources in automation.
Support continuous improvement of existing automation systems.
Support customer automation needs at NPI and Product transfer.
Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total automation system for specific processes.
Be an automation advisor to regional engineering teams and customers.
Collaborate with various automation experts to deliver innovative automation solutions to customers.
Accountable for project management and on time, on budget project execution including leadership of;
Communication with all project stakeholders during the entire project from concept to feasibility and from fabrication and test to production.
Creation of documents for project phases: Charter, SOW, test plans, buy-off, acceptance and project closure.
Regular project timeline and financial tracking and reporting
Change management, Risk Management and communication
Driving decisions and solving problems
Travel
- Expectation of travel to vendor/site locations is 25-30%. However, may be exceeded in critical times throughout project lifecycle.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
MUST HAVE:
Able to analyze and determine the automation requirement and drive deliverables to commitment through global network of vendors and internal resources
Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures
Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings safely
Strong communicator.
Experience with integrating 3rd party automation solutions.
Able to work in a fast-changing dynamic environments
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
Project Management Experience; basic understanding of PMBOK
Knowledge of Financial Terms and Calculations (ROI, Payback, etc.)
NICE TO HAVE:
Knowledge of some of the following automation systems and tools are important to be successful - robotic, vision inspection, material handling, ASRS, Conveyors, PLC, SCADA, screws/fasteners, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test
Experience in Automated Turn Key Solutions; Previously involved in Design, Manufacturing, Installation, Start-Up & Commissioning Stages of the Project
Experience troubleshooting PLC/Robots/HMI
Knowledge of drafting principles using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
Experience with analytical software such as Minitab
Knowledge of Layout, Tooling/Fixturing, Demand Flow, Cell Concept and Lean Manufacturing and Simulation tools
Physical Demands
Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
Minimum 5 years of automation experience in manufacturing industry, preferably in assembly processes.
Minimum 5 years project management experience in manufacturing industry using tools such as; project and resource planning in MS Project and/or smartsheet.
Typical Education
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering / Robotics/ Mechatronics or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PMP project management certification preferred.
