Job Title: Hardware FPGA Engineer

Job Description

Seeking a hardware engineer to design, develop, document, and validate circuit boards for various applications, primarily focused on IP telephony and secure government communications. The ideal candidate must be proficient in VHDL coding and capable of supporting FPGA/programmable device design in VHDL. The engineer will work independently within a small hardware team and collaborate with a software team for system-level integration and testing. The Engineer will mentor the candidate to familiarize them with existing designs and other job aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, and validate high-speed digital circuit boards.

  • Support FPGA/programmable device design in VHDL.

  • Work on products focused on IP telephony and secure government communications.

  • Design applications involving voice and audio processing, IP and Ethernet packet processing, video processing, encryption, and digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CPU address/data buses.

  • Collaborate with a small hardware team for circuit board, FPGA, and CPLD design and testing.

  • Support system-level integration and testing with a software team programming applications for circuit board and FPGA designs.

Essential Skills

  • BSEE plus 1-5 years of related experience in circuit board design and FPGA development.

  • Experience with schematic capture and circuit board layout.

  • Experience with Cadence PCB design tools or comparable circuit board design software.

  • Experience implementing RTL design in VHDL.

  • Experience with Intel and/or Microsemi FPGAs and their development environments.

  • Experience with RTL/VHDL logic simulation and design implementation through timing closure.

  • Proficiency with typical lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, multimeters, etc.).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Cadence PCB design tools is preferred.

  • Experience with Intel and/or Microsemi FPGAs and their development environments is preferred.

  • Proficiency in RTL/VHDL logic simulation and design implementation is required.

  • Proficiency with typical lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, multimeters, etc.).
