SUMMARY

The Area Manager - Manufacturing Operations will oversee production in fabrication, weld, assembly, and paint departments and ultimately own the KPI’s for safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee development. The manager will also be working directly with the functional support teams that include design, materials, maintenance, ops engineering, purchasing, safety, and quality in the McNeilus Truck Riceville, IA plant.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Work with Safety to achieve support environmental safety goals.

  • Set, support, and monitor 6S initiatives.

  • Support SWARMS to identify short- and long-term corrective actions in Safety and Quality.

  • Lead daily production meetings and weekly overtime meetings. Ensure 2nd shift and the weekend shift understand production and over time needs.

  • Facilitates cross-training activities with no adverse impacts on safety, quality, productivity, or morale in the factory. Support the Oshkosh “people first” culture.

  • Prepares daily, weekly & monthly plans for alignment to goals and annual plan initiatives for the factory improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

  • Work with HR business partner to build community relations, recruitment, and positive culture.

  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring team members on all policies and procedures related to our team member handbook, safety policies, etc. while maintaining a culture of ownership and accountability.

  • Provide day to day management to team members, including conducting performance reviews, employee coaching, and development, providing feedback on expectations and providing rewards and recognition across their areas in a timely manner.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, supply chain or in a related field; and/OR equivalent combination of 5 years education and experience.

  • 4 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-7 or more years of experience leading people and teams

  • Experience managing a complex manufacturing environment (multiple departments)

  • Working understand of capacity and resource planning

  • Experience utilizing lean/six sigma or project management experience

  • Experience in lean manufacturing principals such as value streams, 5S, 7 general types of waste, and project planning

  • Experience with Microsoft office, Kronos, and ERP systems (JDE preferred)
