A Day in the Life

In this exciting role as a Software Development Manager, you will lead a motivated, diverse, globally distributed, and knowledge-hungry development team delivering world-class products while striving for the highest level of quality, execution, and functional excellence.

This role is responsible for ensuring that software is developed according to good design practices and follows the corresponding requirements set forth by local procedures, regulatory authorities and notified bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of software engineers.

  • Represent your team to the wider organization.

  • Lead scrum teams through the SDLC for medical devices following IEC 62304/82304.

  • Work with different stakeholders and cross-functional teams to prioritize team work according to business needs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input, provide updates, and align product strategies with their needs and expectations.

  • Decompose and elaborate on feature requirements and management of team backlog.

  • Guide teams in sprint and increment planning, championing, and supervising value-focused capabilities.

  • Balance and drive consensus on inputs from multiple stakeholders, anchoring priorities in direct user research.

  • Participate in Risk Assessment and requirements development.

  • Participate in the documentation of the software including architecture and design detail, unit testing, defect tracking and reports.

  • Cross function team collaboration with HW and systems partners, including Quality, System V&V…etc.

  • Follow Medical device regulations (IEC 62304, IEC 82304, FDA …etc.)

  • Accountable for the quality, robustness, predictability, and completeness of the team’s output, including tracking and reporting software quality metrics.

  • Accountable for your team’s compliance with internal design controls and medical device regulations and standards.

  • Prepare team members for certification and regulatory audits. May represent the team’s work in audits.

  • Drive departmental excellence, proficiency, best practice, and consistency across project teams.

  • Provide leadership in solving engineering problems and fostering creativity and innovation in design and problem solutions.

  • Anticipate the need for new development tools, methods, technologies, and processes.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a technical discipline (engineering or science) required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience.

  • Strong understanding of software development and software systems.

  • Experience in medical device Product Development.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment.

  • Strong experience working across a matrixed organization using written and verbal skills to communicate and understand cross-functional teams’ interactions and responsibilities.

  • Influence management skills: experience working collaboratively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico. Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary by job-related knowledge, skills, experience, etc. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
